Went to the IEP meeting yesterday totally unprepared except for the cookies and coffee I brought (the SE director asked, "Have you been talking to Connie Longshore?" ;D Yep), but we have such a great team that the goals were all just as I would hope.
Stevie has met, or will have met by school's end, all of her current goals No surprise there since I thought last year that they'd not made those goals high enough for Smarty-pants Stevie. Still, she did have to get used to learning while surrounded by her favorite kind of people - kids her age , and new speech therapists. She's outdone all of their expectations, though, so up the goals ladder we go
Her teacher told me that Stevie is extremely popular, especially among the boys and that her favorite is a boy named Charlie We will be getting a bit more communication about what she does at school since she still can't answer questions about what she did or did not do each day - though she's improving on that score.
We decided that Stevie will take pre-school through age 5 (b-day in June) so that she will start Kindy at 6, so we will keep her with her current teacher in the 3-4 year-olds so she will have only one year with the 4-5s. I was happy with that - she has a great teacher and several other of the kids will stay in there too (I didn't ask about Charlie specifically).
So all-in-all a happy and productive time was had by all. On a funny note, the typist who filled out the report for the PE thought Stevie was a boy in spite of her full name - that she had typed - at the top of the page Still, I have been hearing the name being used more frequently lately for girls - there was one for awhile on Am. Idol who did not make it to the finals, and one on a public service announcement on the radio lately
One more thing, since she's done so well, no summer school this year, but they will be testing her at end of term and again at the beginning of next to see if she has brain drain significant enough to require it next year. And they will take care to send her home with a summer packet. I found that to be quite reasonable
