update on the babysitting...plans have changed. Marnie and Sompop are going to be relocating (slowly) to Austin and are visitng this weekend to apartment hunt. They will also be staying at Katie's so it will just be a 'sib fest'. Relieved as grandson has apparently revived a toxic relationship with an old girl friend and Katie was planning to just stay home because of it. But with Aunt Marnie and Aunt Emily on the scene all should be well!!!!

disappointed the sitter is not me...I had wanted to go because this weekend Rachel Simon (Riding the Bus with my Sister and The Story of Beautiful Girl) was going to be in Austin for a book signing. I met Rachel years ago and she and Marnie have done a sibs workshop together at the NDSC. But...it just couldn't be worked out.

sounds like he is doing just fine! I have always maintained that family and real life are often the very best therapies...and I was (in another life LOL...) an occupational therapist. Follow your heart on all this...as you know by now there are really no 'rules' or instruction manuals.

the job is next weekend...I had originally been on tap to go...and really looking forward to it because I had hoped to go to Rachel Simon's (Riding the Bus with My Sister, and The Story of Beautiful Girl) book signing as well. But sometimes plans just don't work out. And it turns out the kids will really be too busy to spend much time with a grandma...Remember Em lived with them for almost 5 years so its always fun for her to get to go 'home' for a few days. She loves their cat and dog too. I am sure it will all go fine but the Mama in me worries...not sure I would leave an almost 17 yr old alone...but he's a great kid and on a good path so guess it will be fine. He is in Lawrence KS this weekend making his first 'college day' visit with Marnie and Sompop at U of Kansas. And their neighbors across the cul de sac are like second family ...nothing will go unnoticed...LOL. And Em is also a great tattler.

Katie and Tony are going to Vegas and they have a 13 yr old and a 17 yr old. Katie said they do pretty well on their own but she thinks she needs someone with them for a few days for 'oversight' so....she has hired Emily! Yup...thats right...Em will be babysitting. The kids know that Em knows their rules and routines and that she will be quick to call Katie if anything is amiss. But I love the text message that Katie shared with me concerning the upcoming event....
Fwd: I asked emily for a list of what she needs when she babysits! Fwd: Here is my list diet cokes sinkinng cows frozen meils coolers lihgt yogurts
I still just love Emily's lists...but most of all I love what she thinks is essential to her job. LOL

I check it a couple of times a week still...if it weren't for UNO I probably would hardly ever think of the words Down syndrome. For us Emily has become an adult just like the rest of her sibs. She has her own set of issues but then so do all the others and just as with all the others we are no longer the 'problem solver' for most of them. We have all come so far since she was born in 1980. Wish I had Uno when she was smaller but who knows...we had to get creative and figure out almost everything on our own and we all survived...LOL. But it would have been fun to have hands to hold on to earlier in her life. ;D

Does anyone here know anything about the PASS program...it allows people on SSI to have more income...but not sure it is what would work for Emily...there is a problem with the commissions she gets from her work messing with the SSI...mostly that it creates a mountain of paperwork.

I should probably add a note to this post that sadly Jan passed away peacefully the evening of Dec 29. As people often times post...CANCER SUCKS and while her battle was not pleasant at least it wasn't very long.
Thanks for your thoughts and prayers.

As the last day of the year arrives usually I start getting anxious about all the things I meant to do and never got around to doing. This year I promised myself to not look BACK but to look AHEAD. Therefore I am eager for tomorrow so I can begin...not sure yet quite what it will be...but know it will be fun and an adventure!
My wish for everyone here is that your New Year hold promise and excitement for you too and that is will be the best year of your life so far!
Love to All....Jackie

We had a great Christmas. After worrying it would be a bit of a bust with just the 3 of us ...turned out to be one of the best ever. Mother Nature certainly helped by giving us a beautiful unforecasted White Christmas. Gorgeous snow fell all day long and didn't stop until we had over 6 inches at nightfall. Ed and Em slept in like old folks...and I finally made them get up around 10. We drank mimosas and opened our presents and then had a brunchy lunch around noon.
My sister and BIL were in Dallas for 2 days and flew back in just in time for dinner with us and a friend down the street. Great brined turkey and all that goes with it to finish off our day. Streets were not impassable so everyone made it home safely...it was just perfect. If you missed it on FB go to my profile to see a pic of the day.
Hope everyone here had a nice one as well...read about many of you. Sad to say Em has to leave Friday night...boo hoo...but we have had some nice painting time out at the studio. She loves the iPad 2 and knows more about operating it than I do.

Ha Susan...hardly...LOL. We just decided to get it for her early so we could work with her on the settings and all. She has had a iTouch for years but this is a bit different. I am still not sure how to fully use MY iPad. Good thing is that Ed is really the one doing it and learning about it so now he will be able to help ME more. He is also interested because his group is switching from the PC to the iPad for their electronic med records sometime in the Spring and he will be getting the newest version of the iPad 2.
Of course she loves it and is already more adept than I am on it. Must say the facetime feature is going to be fun for her...and me too as soon as Ed gets his.
