Well, we are finally getting here. MaryEllen's heart surgery is right around the corner. Please pray for her and all of us. I know this is going to go well, but please keep her in your prayers. Her surgery is on Tues. It is open heart to close a VSD. Thank you so much for all the information you all have sent our way to our private email and on this board. Diane

Oh, I know you're getting really nervous, I remember how it feels. Just trust the doctors (I know, easier said than done!), but to them this is just routine, they've done it so much!
Praying all goes smoothly and she has a quick recovery! Trust me, you will feel SOOOO much better when it's behind you!

Hi, It's Lisa, Dannysmom. I believe we corresponded via email about surgery. I am so glad to hear the day is finally near. Please keep us posted on her progress and you are in my prayers. My son is 6 weeks out of surgery and doing super fantastic. One mom told me as our surgery day was approaching....."the other side of surgery is amazing"...and I can now say it truly is.

Diane....I will be praying for you all.....my daughter had her surgery at 4 months and it went very well....I believe she had it done on a Friday and we were home by Wed. of the next week. It is scary of course, but you will be so relieved once it is past you. I remember just feeling like everything was "on hold" until THAT was done....I couldn't quite concentrate on EI or therapies or anything !! Keep us posted ! If you have any questions or wondering anything....post up here....I'd be happy to help in any way ! Allisa

MaryEllen will be in my prayers. How far do you live from the hospital? Is there a Ronald McDonald House nearby? I got a room at RMc when Cassie had her surgery. I never slept there but it was very nice to have a place to shower and put my stuff. My husband and other daughters spent some time there too.

Donnita, There is a Ronald McDonald house, however, we are on the waiting list for being able to use it. I have a hotel room reserved, and am supposed to check on Monday if we get to use the Ronald McDonald house. We will see how this goes. Thanks.

Diane, I don't know how it is at your hospital, but here's what they did when Nicholas had his surgery. The peds unit was at one end of the hall, and the PICU was at the other end. As long as they weren't full on the peds end, they gave us a room to use while Nicholas was in the hospital. So we were able to shower, lay down, etc, and never have to actually leave him. That was kinda cool!

Valerie,This is what i am told is true here too. I am hoping to do this, while our extended family stays at the hotel. None of us are local. Hopefully this will work out well. I just am grateful everyone will have a safe place to be. It is all a learning curve. Any other words of wisdom? I would love to hear them. Thanks again.

Diane,
I'll keep you all in my prayers. Eric had 2 surgeries at one yr. of age.(colostomy and closure), so I know how anxious you must feel. But these kiddos of ours are very tuff... I'm glad your family will be with you...nothing better than the support and strength from loved ones. Here's praying for a successful surgery and a speedy recovery. Dolly

MaryEllen with definately be in my prayers.
Sarah had a complete AV Canal, VSD and PDA. She was very ill before her surgery and her repair was complicated. She was in surgery about 6 hours and stayed in PICU for nine days. She was only in a room for one day and then sent home. She also had a very long and diffiuclt recovery. Your daughter will probably be home in a few days and feeling great.
My only advise is to bring something to read or something to keep your hands busy. Actually, your child probably won't be sedated for long and will be demanding of your time and attention the day after surgery. Get lots of rest today and tomorrow!
Chris
