Hi, Have any of you taken your 5 y/old with DS to the movie theater? If so, please tell me about your experience, because I am not sure if Luke is ready or not to go there... Thanks, Alice

Does Luke enjoy sitting and watching movies at home? Have you ever taken him to an "event" that he has to be quiet for? If not, I would suggested taking him to a matinee the first time - then if you have to leave you won't be out as much money! LOL I say go for it and see how he does.
Jessie
P.S. We saw Lemony Snicket's a Series of Unfortunate Events and it was soooooooo boring. Jason did sit through the whole thing, but he is a movie freak - I wouldn't recommend it for a young one or one that needs alot of action during the movie to keep their attention.

Charlie has been going to movies, occasionally, since he was about 3. I think Monsters Inc. was his first movie. He's always liked them and has always been well behaved. We try to sit near the front, Charlie's visually impaired. I think he likes animated, Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, much better than regular flicks, I Am Sam. In August 2002, I think, Charlie made a guest appearance on the Weekend Today Show. Janice Huff complimented him on his cool sunglasses. Later that day he attended his first (and so far, only) Broadway show. We should have gone to see something else but left it up to big, half sister, whose birthday we were celebrating. She wanted to see Rent (3rd time for me) because some Back Street Boy was in it. A brassy, benighted usher rather rudely asked, do you have a ticket for that "baby?" Yes, of course, we had a ticket for Charlie--should have gone on to say, otherwise we wouldn't be bringing him into your crummy theater, you @$$hole--but didn’t. At intermission and at the end of the musical, several fellow theater-goes in nearby seats commented on how well behaved Charlie was, some noting that he applauded at just the right times. I think he enjoyed Rent, but, most unfortunately, I think he enjoyed the shows at Disney World more. -- Cheers, Bob

Bob, Bob.. admit it... the conspriacy to make sure you get to anything Disney is relentess. Surrender NOW ;D ;D (Altho I DO feel your pain) Alice.. take Luke to the movies, my bet is he'll love it. When we DO get to the movies, we try and alternate one for Gabe (like The Incredibles ) and one for me (like some arty thing.) Gabe loves 'em all ; if he doesn't like the movie he likes the Popcorn and the snacks just fine! If he should act up take him to the back and give him a chance to settle down and if that doesn't work try again another day. But my guess is that Luke will just love the movies

Well, we have not taken Russell to the movies yet, he will be 7 in March. BUT... for Russell he has major sensory issues with sound and darkness so indoors at a movie theater would not be a great idea for him. We went to a dinner/show/cruise last May and he was MISERABLE! We have done other indoor things that are on the darker side and a bit loud and Russell just doesn't do well. Take that all away and I would be glad to take him! If it was an outdoor venue, no prob, if it catches his interest! I say go for it! Do a matinee like suggested and see how it goes. Can't know until you try! Regan, our oldest was around 4 or 5 the first time she went. We did a evening show and she really did like it but got a bit tired.. but for the most part, she always loved it! A.

We have had good experiences at the movies except for I-Max. For many years, our son completely freaked out at the open expanse of the theater and the feeling of floating around with the movie. We had to leave immediately. Now, he is fine.

Raven loves going to the movies!! We took her last year for the 1st time.....we saw Finding Nemo. She had a great experience, but she also LOVES to watch movies & the giant screen is a real treat for her!! lol She just went on a field trip with her class to the movies & did great! The previews can be a bit much, they are a bit loud & fast, but once the movie gets going it was fine Good luck!!!!

Alice we started taking Justin to the theaters last year he's 4 he LOVED IT!!!!!!!! of course it helped that we prepared ourselves with a bag of snacks But have to say SCOOBY DOO 2 was a hit for our little guy One thing we do with him is try to take him to movies that we think he will like, like alot of music, he loves getting up in the aisle and dancing his little heart out but then we notice everyone is more entertained with our little ham than the movie lol. But I say it couldn't hurt to try, you can always leave, I remember when Ashley at the time she was 5 and she just kept crying during the movie so we got up to leave and on the way out one of the ushers gave us free passes to come back when we thought she would enjoy the movie more.

Haley loves the theatre, but noises are an issue - she wears earmuffs ;D. One time, my DH was running to the restroom, saw a Mom and son outside the doors, he asked the mom if noise was the problem, she said yes, he went up to one of the employees and asked that they turn down the volume a bit. They did! Both kids enjoyed the movie that day thanks to Dad!

Merideth has been to all of them....live theater, IMAX, Drive In's & the multiplex. Most recently, we took her to see The Spongebob Movie on NYE day. She loves SB so she sat thru that without a wimper. We usually try to sit in the back row & put her along an aisle so she can see.( Our local multiplex has 3 extra seats in the back rows at the top of each stairs where noone is sitting in ft of you) ~only thing we ever had a prob with in her case was the roller rink. When the lights got low & the disco lights came on she freaked at the noise

Cassie has been to the movies several times, she's three and a half now. She has also watched a couple of plays and some ballets, and did well during them too.

We have taken Lewis to the movies since before he was born!! I remember sitting in the theatre watching Gladiator, and he kicked the crap out of me!! I was soooo uncomfortable! When he was only 3 weeks old and out of hospital only 1 day...I took him to see Cats...LOL, bought tickets thinking he would be in hospital for weeks after he was born and I had built in babysitters...not expecting him to be so healthy he would be home early!! But he has always been well behaved and loves watching the movies...especially the music.. These days we have to stay right untill all the end credits are finished because he likes to dance to the music...our theatre manager thinks he is so cute and and leaves the tapes running for him!

ALICE, just my thoughts BUT I really believe the only way to get LUKE ready is to DO it ;D Chris has gone to the movies, plays, ice shows, etc and yes the first times were a bit trying but he loves them and I honestly can tell you his behavior is most appropriate there and better then many other kids I see that don't have DS. Go for it is my suggestion CC ~

Justin is four and I have not taken him yet, he will sit for ever in front of the tv but Im not sure how he will do with loud sound, he does not do well with alot of loud sounds around him, I never thought of ear muffs Im not sure he would keep them on. I could ask them to turn it down, I have thought about taken him to one in the day time when it wouldnt be so busy that way if he did scream we could just get up and go or maybe buy lots of popcorn he loves that, LOL Becky
