This is probably way way too early to ask this question but......recently I have been thinking about what to do with my daughter when she gets too old for daycare. I have been talking to other parents and a lot of them are letting their kids stay home alone when they are around 11,12 years old. I can't imagine I can do that with my daughter. I know there are camps but I was just curious what the parents with older children with DS did when their kids got kicked out of daycare.

Our schools offer before and after school care through the YMCA. You might want to ask the school. You could also look into having a high school student babysit. The high schools usually have students that they can refer.

AMY.... you are in Louisiana right?? Does she get medicaid? or is she on the children's choice waiver? There is only a 4 year waiting list for it.....get on it quick! Call your local OCDD - Office for citizens with developmental disabilities. Ask them to sign you up for all the waivers...the reason I say the childrens choice waiver is...they will send someone out to your house to take care of her after school for up to 4 hours a day/ 5 days a week. Also through medcaid, EPSDT is a program where you get respite care 4 hours a day 7 days a week....in a center or at home...the only stipulation with the home through this program is, someone has to be there.
Courtney just came up for the childrens choice waiver...they just hired a lady and she will start next week. Mon- Fri from 3-7. This will be a big help with me having the 3 boys to attend to.
If you would like to talk, email me and I can give you a list of things to check out. dcajng@yahoo.com

OMG YIKES alls I can say is Chris is 11 and nooooo way could I leave him home alone
Lucky for me I work from home soo I have nooo need for day care but I woud bet your local high school or local college would be a good place to look for the right person to do day care in you home when needed
