I have yet another question. My daughter is 4 and has started rolling her tongue out of her mouth. She takes her tongue and slides it across her front bottom teeth and then out of her mouth. She used to do this when she was around a year old. I have been constantly after her to stop because I don't want her to make this a habit. I have seen grown people with Down's who do this constantly but I think if I keep at her not to that she hopefully won't do it as an adult. I was wondering if this is a fase or if I should keep obsessing about it. I corrected her when she was younger and she stopped but now she is doing it again.
Thanks! Amy

If you have a speech therapist you deal with, ask for some advice regarding this. John will sometimes take on some annoying oral habits ( gritting teeth or growling & chewing on fingers) and we are always able to resolve it with some sensory integration therapy. There are a couple of different things to try, so your therapists will steer you in the right direction. Good luck-

My thoughts exactly...sensory stuff. I suggest an eval by your OT. We do brushing therapy and that helps. We have a whole box of "oral" stuff that Maggie uses when she needs that oral stimulation.
The licking the tv and class is what makes me nuts! I could clean all the glass surfaces in my house twice a day and still not keep up with that tongue print!
Take care.
