After reading through Kim's post about what happened to Brace, I thought I'd share a little something that happened to me at the grocery store the other day. I was shopping for groceries...alone for once!...and there were two men that "followed" me through the store (they didn't really follow me...it just seemed like it cuz I met them in every aisle!). They were about mid 30's I'd say...and one of them was acting like he was mentally retarted...and he was NOT! I heard them giggling about it and speaking to each other. I think they were just trying to be funny...but it really annoyed me, to say the least! I ignored it, even though I realllly wanted to say something! But, I didn't. Later they were behind me in line, the same guy was doing the same thing and then they'd chit chat and laugh...I wanted so bad to tell them they probably were just trying to be "cute (or whatever) but did they know they were probably offending people and didn't even know it? Augh! I also wanted to ask if they were a couple and that, if they were, they should know better than to act like that making fun of people who are "different"! lol Anyway...would you have said something to them if you had the chance? What would you have done?? I'm very ashamed to admit this...but my older brother used to do the same thing...when we were younger. I was always terribly embarassed by him, but I always laughed. Needless to say, I've learned a lot since then! And...so has he! He and Aidan are best buds! Staci

Hmmmm good question. I have to admit we use to do that when we were kids... I think it's a rite of passage, acting like an idiot as a kid and seeing if you can get away with it LMAO! Like prank phone calls... I think most of us did it! ;D
Now, I don't know if I'd say something to them or not. And it wouldn't be because I have a son w/DS. It's a mom thing for me and I just don't like ANYONE being made fun of. I always make that quite clear with Regan and her friends that it's not acceptable. It might depend on my mood LOL. I am pretty verbal.. but I also try and pick and choose when and where I open it and how... I am a smart mouth/kidder by nature so when I DO say something to someone, I tend to present it as a joke, to take the edge off and let them know it's not cool....

Mid 30's and do the same things as we did when we were kids? I do not think so that you should spend you time and energy to talk to them (mid 30's idiots). If they do not understand how be not rude at this age, it is for ever. Just LOL of them. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Hugs, Alice

NOPE I would not have said a word to them. If the guy truly did not have a disability as you said and was just being a jerk, by acknowledging him, I beleive you would have been giving him just what he was looking for, ATTENTION.
Hmmmm, mid thirties you say, Hmmmm sounds like if they were actting like that at 30, Hmmmmm I would say they had some kind of problem
