Wow ! Who knew all these were out there ? The first 3 were definitely not as cute as the others, but after reading the explanation that went with them, they were definitely not meant to be offensive. It says they are hand carved from clay ( I couldn't have done any better !)....the others looked like they rolled off a factory belt and the woman who made the first 3 has 3 children with DS ! Are there more DS dolls out there ? I never knoew there was a market for that.... might be interesting to order one... thanks for sharing ! Allisa

OMG!!!Those dolls look nothing like a baby with Ds! I dont know what I was expecting but I honestly laughed out loud when I saw the first pic because it is soooo odd looking. I agree that I don't think the person is trying to be offensive but she needs a little more practice. Mary

Yes I thought about ordering one of the good ones too until I saw the price...however my Grandma got me a porcelin doll every year for my birthday until she forgot I existed so I'm thinking about starting the same tradition...we'll see.
I agree I couldn't have done any better with the carving the dolls out of clay, but I also wouldn't sell them if they didn't look realistic! I know that she didn't mean to be offensive...but I want to see pictures of her kids, if they look like that then maybe I just haven't seen enough kids with DS! I just don't think she should sell them if they don't look real....what would you have done if you had seen that when you first found out your child had DS??

I dont know how offensive those dolls are but geezzz are they ugly. They do not look at all like a baby with DS. The other ones are rather cute though.

I have seen a couple of the dolls you are talking about in the past... I really don't care either way actually, and I don't find them offensive... because it's not towards ME personally...
BUT.. the Downicreations Dolls I LOVE. My MIL collects dolls and prior to their HUGE price jump, when we first moved out here, we bought her one for xmas. MAN o MAN you should have SEEN her face!!!! I bought Kaylan (I think is his name) because it best represted Russell's hair and eyes, but didn't care for the outfit too much, so I bought an extra outfit...My MIL then searched HIGH and LOW for the perfect antique wooden highchair JUST for that doll!!! She would carry it EVERYWHERE for the first couple weeks she got it, she really loves dolls and was in tears of joy knowing we did that for her, and that they MADE dolls w/DS... it was the best gift I have ever given her... well, except for her grandchildren LOL

I checked them all out and for me I say Hmmmmmm K, jump on me if you will, cause lately it seems I am off beat with most here Hmmmm BUT I don't get the point of any doll with DS Now I have to say I did't fill out the thing to read BUT from the numbers looks like there were plenty of positive feedback on the first three Hmmmm Yes, I do agree the last group were very very cute BUT I don't see them as true examples of DS either I have the real "doll" aka Christopher ;D soooooo I don't need a doll ;D CC ~

Ok....checked these out. I think the woman had good intentions....but is like me and singing....no way. The poor babies didn't come out too well. I can't say I would do any better, but whoa. The Downi dolls I have heard a lot about and they are done very well. I think people are just trying to go along with the whole politically correct dolls now, Barbie as a DR, wheelchair dolls, dolls with glasses, etc.

OK, please note that I am chuckling a bit, ok actually LOL b/c I took a look at all of those dolls. But when I looked at the first one I thought "OMG my baby's going to look like that??" OK, now I know I'm loosing it b/c I'm starting to laugh so hard I'm crying now. Thank goodness for the other posts. I was actually in a panic until I read that they looked nothing like your babies or "a baby" with DS. Then I remembered all the pics in the photo album and really felt dumb b/c all the babies I've seen posted are so cute! What the heck was I thinking. You know, I really need a good night's rest and a couple of good stiff drinks. Also thank goodness I looked at her feedback to see if people are actually buying these dolls. Well, yes they are. Beauty is definately in the eye of the beholder. Reading her story, her intentions were good, just her artistic interpretation was not our taste. Ahem. But did anyone else notice that she also makes monkeys? I think she should stick with them. The other dolls on the other hand were quite beautiful, but I'm with CC. I just don't get the point.
Sorry guys, I've been stretched to my limit this week. Spoke to my father tonight for the first time in 4 months. Add that to DH worries and the stress my little sicky-poo put me through this past weekend...stick a fork in me - I'm done!

Christine~ I'm so glad you can laugh, cause looking at some of those first baby dolls might make anyone cry! Not only do I think they do NOT look like my own daughter did as a newborn, I just don't see the point. And even if I did want one of the Downicreations dolls, the price is simply toooooo high.
Personally, IF my daughter had ever been "into dolls" (which...sigh, she never ever was), she would have wanted one of the dolls she saw on TV, or one of the dolls her friends had....or one of the dolls she saw at Toys R Us. She would not have been impressed by the fact that a doll supposedly looked like her. She's not a Barbie type of girl either...but if she was, I don't think she'd get excited about Ds Barbie, simply cause it was supposed to look more like her. I really don't think that Em sees herself as looking much different than anyone else she knows. (YIKES....that's a whole different thread I'm sure!)

yeah those are pretty awful...not my taste -- and not at all a representation of any baby/child/adult that i've seen w/ DS. She obviously has a certain 'style' cause the monkeys look alot like the other dolls. I'm not crazy about the idea of the dolls w/ DS in general either...I don't get it (no offense to anyone) although the dolls I looked at ARE beautiful (downi creations?). and if Meghan liked dolls, I'd get her whichever doll she liked, be it Barbie, Cabbage patch, whatever...I don't feel she needs a doll that looks like her. I just wish the kid LIKED dolls, LOLOLOL! I loved them as a kid and always wanted a daughter to buy dolls for. I did force a Cinderella doll on her last week...She likes the Disney princesses and tries to say Cinderella...but I digress. laurie
