they should have sent you a form that you can get people to donate...either a flat amount or so much per mile. atleast that's the way it works around here. I'm doing a walk for pancreatic cancer the end of july and each person walking HAS TO raise atleast $50 in order to walk, but I don't think the DS Buddy walks have a minimum per person? not sure, cause we havent done one yet. have fun! laurie

I never did a SO CAL one when we still lived there.... but here in MO, they have a form for you to fill out and raise money with. They make a big deal and the top raisers win prizes. The ONLY pitfall with that here is only ONE child w/DS can be acknowledged on a form... so when Susan and Donnita and Deanna all came in we couldn't be on ONE form... for only 1 child would have been acknowledged. So, we decided not to do the "raise money" part of it and everyone just signed themselves up.
They also make signs and carry them too. So, maybe a big poster or sign for you all to carry on the walk might be fun!
Have Fun Renee! Last year was our first walk and it was alot of fun!

When you register they give you a form, if they didn't give you one, call them and I am sure they will mail you one. If you are all walking as a team, the form would be under "Lauren Taylors' Troops" We have done many walks since Chris was born and he loves them as he loves walking. One we did for the ARC was a 5 mile and my little character waked the entire 5 miles pulling his big red wagon ;D We didn't do it as a team Chris just collected money from people, school personnel and such, $2.00 here $5.00 there and so forth and he got an award for collecting the most money from one individual ;D He raised over $1,000.00 just by himself, and a little help from me Any whoooo a cute idea I have seen @ lots of our walks is if they have lots walking as a team the group has tee shirts made with the team name on them, very cute The New York Buddy Walk is 1 mile and people just donated all different amounts to Chris to hand in for his taking part in the walk I have always found people love to give to good causes like this Enjoy and have FUN CC ~

Our local Ds group is still what I consider to be in the grass roots stage, so our Buddy Walk is not to that level yet of raising donations using forms. Basically, whoever walks brings in whatever donations they can give or have been given by other people that aren't walking. Hopefully this year we will be a little bit more on the ball with things. We did have t-shirts that you could get depending on the donation (it was a minimal amount to donate to get a t-shirt).
Have fun on your walk!
Jessie

Check out the NDSS site for Buddy Walks... www.buddywalk.org/ In Denver, we are now doing fundraising via the internet, whereas prior to this year, it was all through collection of checks or cash by the family who was the team captain. It has gotten pretty extensive here, and of course lots of the Buddy Walks are just in the beginning stages, as Jessie said, but it is something to keep in mind for the future. I guess Buddy Walks that use this internet site to post team members and collect donations have a lot of success in raising more money than they did before using the site. For what its worth... We've had a lot of fun doing our fundraising this way this year. Our team is under MHDSA Buddy Walk, "Cole's Comrades".
