I thought Stephanie (22) would never learn to do zippers and buttons and laces. They are hard for her, but she has the fine motor strength to do them now and has for a long time. She is still really slow at buttoning and slips her tennis shoes on and off to avoid more tying than necessary. She's pretty slow at lacing up her horseback riding boots, but is getting faster (just drives me nuts to watch her do it!).
There are many stylish options for all the age groups now. The jogging suits are very popular in many different materials and easy to wear. T-shirts are great, except some are cut too low for our "no-shoulder" kids . The 3/4-length sleeve shirts that have been in style work great on Steph and she rolls up the full-length sleeves. Anything with an elastic waist usually works, though Steph wears zip up jeans. Fit is always hard as my Steph has a relatively small waist and huge behind! Forget the Junior section for jeans and go straight to "misses" (Riders relaxed fit stretch found at Walmart are the right shape and cuffing the legs works and is now in style). Bathing suits need to be the racer-back variety or they fall off the shoulders. Dresses, in general, are not great for Steph as she likes to sit "indian style" (always have our kids wear shorts under dresses to avoid showing too much). Now she is older she is wearing more dresses and sitting "politely". When we find a dress that fits with only a little modification, due to sloping shoulders, Steph gets one in every color. Steph has just started wearing "heels" and wears relatively low chunky "platform" types. These are really in style now, you just need to look for something with some type of arch support that is comfortable.
