www.nzherald.co.nz/category/story.cfm?c_id=301&objectid=10457364And tell me how you think this dude is anticipating "curing" DS... I can't tell if he's ignorant enough to think that bt screening for DS you can wipe it out through termination, or if he is pushing for a "cure" through gene therapy... I'm thinking the first...ugh...

The way I read it his cure to DS is to abort and then there will be none. Least how this article comes off to me.

The title of the article indicates that he is in favor of ALTERING the genes; although he certainly wouldn't discourage anyone from aborting either. To me, the article was very vague about his views...........really seemed that he didn't actually stand for anything! Makes me wonder how his wife teaches her students.

That was one of the "oddest" articles I've ever read in my entire life.
I can't grasp what he's trying to say (maybe I don't want to grasp it).....comparing chosing a red hair baby, ethics, religion, and DS.....HUH?!

Hard to figure out his veiwpoint as he is talking out both sides of his mouth . . . God is the source of life, yet it's ok to abort if the child isn't perfect? Huh.

I'm glad I'm not the only one! I can't tell if the fault is with the person who wrote the article, or if he just is hard to pin down on what he actually believes.

Actually, I didn't get anything out of the article. I think it was missing something...like an article. Looks like a light newsday at the NZ Herald.

Christine's right - it was a slow news day and all their good reporters were on vacation. There isn't enough information in that article to do anything more than guess at what the story was about - I think it was intended to be some sort of introduction of this new Dean, but it went awry. The interviewer clearly was clueless about not only what questions to ask, but about the answers received.

The only thing that came to my Christian mind is what a Moron. I guess that is not very Christian of me but he sure didn't sound like a Christian man to me standing there saying he would not fault someone aborting a child that had Down Syndrome or other issues...just not red hair.
