Erin does a combo of signs, verbal and pictures. mostly signs....she doesn't speak a whole lot...but can say all the words that she can sign.....just seems to chose not to..... BUT...... Yesterday I was DETERMINED to get a "Hi Momma" from her....she was waving and signing momma.....and I kept saying it over and over and tapping her mouth.....nothing..... Well, then I put her hand on my voice box and said it..... OH MY You should have seen her little face light up !! I put her hand on her own voice box and said " hi momma" and SHE REPEATED IT !! And continued to do so....laughing the whole time at the feel of it ! So now....I put her hand there when I'm waiting for a vocalization and 9 times out of 10...she gives it to me ! Yeah Erin !! How simple was that, yet I never thought if it before !! Thanks for listening to my two crowing posts !!

Oh shoot. Charlie's in school. I won't get to try this out until this evening. Probably won't work with him but, hey, worth a shot. Thanks for the tip. Have tried fingers on lips but haven't tried hand on voice box. Our big breakthrough recently was he picked up his sound board thing at school on his own initiative and pressed the button to make it say "I want Bob the Builder please." And he did it at a very appropriate moment, apparently with intent and meaning. Santa has already got the same B the B toy he's playing with at school waiting in a box upstairs. Great progress for Erin. WTG. And we'll take whatever we can get. Regards, Bob

Bob & Dawn....let me know if you get any results !! Connie....why is it that all the "lightbulb moments" come later rather than sooner

Nah, didn't work for us. Didn't much think it would but thought Charlie would have been more entertained than he was. But I'll check with him later. Might change his mind. He much prefers sticking his fingers in my mouth. I'm ok with that, only problem is make sure to keep his hands washed. I know where those fingers have sometimes been. -- Bob

:oWhat wonderful news. It just amazes me that some of the most simple things turn out to be crowning moments.
Thanks for sharing.
