and I was wondering if any of you would mind if I showed her around out here. I told her NOT to enter internet world and google DS or anything of the sort. As we all know there are some things a almost 14 year old just doesn't need to know, at least I think so, and the internet is full of things that just are not the facts. Last thing I want her to take away from this project is some sort of new "funk" about her sister or others for that matter when it took so long to get her over her thinking sister was going to die. Also, if anyone knows of a good sight w/ report type stuff on it i'd appreciate it. I'm going to let her look at NDSS and another one I have bookmarked, forgot the name Thx everyone. She thought of this all by herself and it just brought tears to my eyes to know how much she loves her sister, i could hardly get the frog out of my throat to say "That's wonderful Mary" but i managed

AWESOME!!! WTG Mary!!!! I think even as adults we have to wade through the facts and half truths... so let her muddle around the internet world of DS and just help her weed through the facts! It might be a fun, educational experience for BOTH of you!
I have a 14 yr old also... but I also know from having Russell and her being in high school, not much can surprise her LOL I understand about your daughter and thinking her sis was going to die, but I bet she might surprise you with what she can gain from all of this!
I'd love to know the finished project! Keep us posted!
A.

She got an A !!!! : ) The first 1/2 was facts and stuff. This is the conclusion.... I'll let her write it... Hi my name is mary ray and i am in the 8th, now i wrote a paper in health class about Down syndrome and my conclusion was about my baby sister brook. well here it is hope you like it, i know my class did. The reason i know so much about Down syndrome is because my sister has it she is 2 years old and when she was born she was diagnosed with it. my mom was very upset and I idn't know how to handle it, it was a very sad time for us all. at first i didn't know what was going wrong and know one would tell me. then my aunt pulled me out in to the hallway at the hospital and told me, after i found out i started to cry it was the most heart breaking story that i had ever heard. then when i went back in to the room gave my mom a big hug and told her that everything was going to be ok. the next day, while my mom was still in the hospital i got on the computer and wrote her a letter it said " Dear mom I know this may be hard for you and i just wanted to tell you that it's hard for all of us and i know that you can get through this cause you are the strongest person that i know and if you can get through this i know that you can do anything love mary a duaghter that know's you can do anything that you put your mind to. After that i found out that brook had to be transfered in the panda car and up to Dorn Beckers which is a big hospital up in portland i was so scard. then i found out that she had a whole in her heart and that she wasn't getting enough oxygen and she was not breatheing right. i thought that she was going to die or something. then a while later she got to come home and it was one of the happyest moments of my life and the MOST happyest moment of my mom's life. she was so happy that she finally got ot come home. Even though she my mom knew she had DS she didn't care she was just so happy that she had a nother baby that she could love just as much as she loved me when i was a baby. And i knew everything was going to be ok cause i knew that she was going to be a great mother and do her best to do anything to make brook's and mine and everyone around her have the best life that anybody could have, even if things got tough she would do her best to deal with them the best way she knew how and that was good enough for me. that was my conclusion about my baby sister brook i hope you like it i know my mom did it made her cry. and the reason that i wanted to write about it was that it was some thing that was close to me and that i would have a fun time learning about even though i all ready knew everything to know about it from my mom i was still funto learn a little more about. THANKS From a big sister with a little sister with Down syndrome HOPED YOU LIKE IT BYE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
