Jessika, Collin now 8 loves his baby book and looking at all the pictures!! Him and his sister are forever getting their books out. You asked "Can they comprehend what they see?" Let me share this with you. Collin went to a different school last year for Kindergarten, well my husband took him back there for something (I can't remember why right off hand) and they were looking at all the pictures of the kids. Collin went through and named everyone of them!!!!These were kids he's not seen in almost a year. My DH couldn't name them!! So you tell him if he comprehends what he's seeing!!! I think he does!!! Chickie....He's going to amaze you and your both going to be GREAT!!! Connie

There are 3 8X10's on my living room wall. About a month ago or so, Cassie started to look up to the pics there. We started saying to her, " look at the babies" So all the time she looks up at the 3 large pics on the wall. When we say, where are the babies, she looks up to them. They are pics of my twins when they were about 5 and my other son who was about 6 months and cassie at 3 months. She loves those pics. She is 10.5 months now.

Alison LOVES to look at pictures, especially of herself!!!! As Susan, Emilysmom, can tell you from first hand experience Alison also loves to have her pic taken..... the kid sees a camera and she's got a great big smile and is saying "Cheese!!!" just as loud as she can. Funny story..... this past Christmas she was actually willing to sit on Santa's lap for a pic. We waited in line for about half an hour. When it was finally her turn she sat on his lap, turned and said "Santa, picture time, smile and say Cheese!" Everybody with in ear shot was cracking up!!!!
Does she "get" what she's looking at in the pictures? Oh yeah, big time!!! She's chat about who is in the pic, what they're doing, if they're happy or sad ( she's got a thing about telling me whether people around her are happy or sad, not sure what it's all about! ). She'll sit with photo albums for hours.
Because my family is all out of state, I made photo albums for each of my girls when they were very young, Noah's age or younger even, with pics of my Mom, sisters, my Aunts and Uncles, their cousins etc and we'd look at them and I'd tell them who everybody was. I never had a problem with any of the kids being strange with these people even though we see them maybe once or twice a year!!!! Of course it's not always easy keeping the pics up to date but I do the best I can.
I'm sure your gorgeous little Noah will love to see "Baby Noah" when he's an "old" man!!!!

Ok Haley LOVES to look at pictures - especially of HER! She has a "baby book" and for years my Mom babysat 2/3 days a week for her. EVERY DAY Haley would say Grandma, have you seen my pictures? Grandma would sit down and reply "not today" and get to go over each picture (she especially likes when she was still in my tummy and I would "look" for HER in the picture!

Oh, my goodness! How ironic! Earlier this evening before he went to bed, Nicholas had out one of the photo albums for about a half hour looking through it, and naming all the people. He does that quite often.
Also, when he was about 2, I took pictures of him doing different things, his dad, brother, and myself, the dog, our house, his grandma... Then I put the pictures on plain white paper that I had printed different things on, like, "Nicholas is reading a book." Then I put these in plastic sleeves and in a 3 ring binder. He absolutely LOVES that thing! A lot of times when he's picking out books to read at bedtime, he'll get that!

oh man, Meghan LOVES to look at pictures....of herself, of family members, of friends, etc. She'd drive you crazy with it, lol!
I just found a memory book that her preschool teachers made for her when she graduated. Now, mind you - this was in 2006 (August) and that was the last time she saw those kids...there were about 20 kids in the class and she STILL remembers each ones' name (with the exception of one girl, because she mistook one sister for the other) so even 1 1/2 years later she remembers all the kids names!
When she was a baby we had one of those "Who loves baby" soft books that you make...she still likes looking at that - I put in pictures of relatives she didn't see so often so she would learn who was who.....not an easy feat when my 3 older brothers all look very much alike, down to their grizzly beards, lol!
so yes, she understands, she knows who is who, and knows it and enjoys it ALL TOO WELL!!!!!

Somewhere I read that people with Ds prefered actual photos to sketches or other less realistic pictures, and it is certainly true for Mikah. Oh, he likes all pictures, but if it's a photo it gets much more attention. When he was younger the only books he really liked were photo illustrated, and he LOVED those. His favorites were several we got as baby shower presents that have photographs, single word text and an illustration of how to sign the concept. Once he knew the sign for one of the pages, he'd point to the sign illustration, laugh then sign it himself so he not only (at age 2 or so) associated the picture with the concept, he could figure out that the sign illustration was showing how to sign it. My partner says she stopped worrying about how he'd do when he started making jokes (visually, not verbally) like signing daddy and grinning when he was looking at her. He's a real goof .

Yep, she loves photos. When I take one on my digital she runs up and insist on me showing her. When she sees her baby photos she thinks its her baby sister.

omh yes 1 of her fav things to do. its gr8 too cause all the pics u r taking u can use for picture cards later. I have an album just for Olivia when she goes away. She could look at the album 10 zillion times a day. Also she loves pics of those ppl and things that she loves and are close to her. I have zillions of pics Noah will love his trust me. Steff
I also made picture books for Liv and we did the reading words picture matching game to teach herto read the names of those she loves and everyday objects as Liv tends to relate to real pics rather than drawn illustrations. (((HUGS))) Steff
