This was one of the most incredible books about autism I've ever read. The author, Elizabeth Moon, has and autistic teenage son. The book is written mostly from his point of view and it really seemed like I was experiencing the world as an autistic person might. It's a sci-fi book, but doesn't feel like one. The only futuristic elements have to do with a possible treatment for autism and whether the main character should take it or not. This was another book I just couldn't put down.
