Hi All ! My son (10) started reading these books and we LOVE them !! We are up to book 8 at the moment... it is kind of nice picking up a series that is already written because we don;t have to wait for the newest to come out !! They are childrens books... appropriate for 4th, 5th or 6th grade reading. They are about 3 children whose parents have been killed and a horrible uncle (Count Olaf) who is trying to steal their fortune.... Even though they are children's books... I'm hooked and they drop little clues and hints so that you can start to see a connection. "Lemony Snicket" is the author, but he is more than the author... he is also involved with the charactares.... I won;t say any more... you have to read them !! Of course Hollywood has already read them and the new movie will be out in December with Jim Carey as the Evil Count Olaf.... read them before the movie is in theaters !! Warning to parents of VERY young children.... Count Olaf is VERY horrible and they do discuss death & murder and unpleasant stuff.... but the author himself warns the kids, too.... and I for one really likes the way he presents these horrible things to children..... any one else read them yet ?

Allisa.... My daughter LOVES these books... she started reading them 2 years ago... but I think has only read the first 4... Living in a small town our library is very small and not very well stocked... I have not read them myself but Em sits and reads out all the funny bits to me...

I will have to read these...my son and his wife love them...found them long ago.....They are often available at SAMS for considerably less than in bookstores. Without even reading one...but hearing about them...I can just imagine Jim Carey doing this....

I have read only one of these books. My second neice, Alison, has them. I read one book in one sitting. They are very addictive! It was the first children's book that I have read that is not all sweetness and light. I was hooked! I had asked my neice where she got them. I think she said they were at the school library or something like that. Anyway, they are good! ;D

These books were a life saver. At my oldest son's school, the kids have to read books at certain difficulty levels and then take content tests (called Accelerated Reading tests) to earn points toward an individual goal. My son is a good reader, but its not his favorite pastime. We were having a bit of trouble getting him motivated to do his 30 required minutes of reading at home each day after school. Then he found this series! Several of his friends had recommended it and he was hooked. We went from nagging over reading to him spending his own money at the book fair to buy the books and even asking for them for Christmas presents! Thank you Lemony Snicket! I have not read them myself....only the book jackets....but they look fun. Connor is eagerly awaiting the next book....and the movie....he has read them all to date.
