i posted on the regular part of the BB but will finish up over here. After reading what you guys wrote, and the IDEA stuff and talking to a few of my friends around here who've been thru this...I am pretty sure that the first CPSE meeting we had wasn't "legal" -- there was no regular ed teacher present, and it looks like one *has* to be there...it wasn't mentioned or an excuse made for one not being there - there just wasn't one there. So I've got a call in to the spec. ed director and we'll see what happens. Thank you all again soooo much for your input - I'll let you know when we arrange another meeting. MM's teacher and her school psychologist have PROMISED to attend with me this time, so hopefully we'll make a little more headway! laurie

Ok... that makes sense. You said "preschool teacher" so I assumed it was a reg ed preschool teacher. You also stated a teacher for next year can't come because you all don't know who that would be yet... well, most of the time you DO know or should have an idea and the IEP SHOULD take place at the possible placment choice. And remember... put things in writing and get things in writing LMAO!!! A.

the regular ed teacher for next year wasn't present. my friend who is a parent member and sits in on IEPS and all that said a regular ed teacher in the upcoming school HAS to be present. Doesn't have to be the child's teacher - can be a music or art teacher, whatever, but one has to be present. Even if the spec ed teacher was duly certified as both regular ed & special ed she cant sit as both and she was clearly identified to me as the SPECIAL ED teacher. Too confusing for me :-)

right.. ok... right... We JUST learned some of this at our workshop. And that is correct.. a reg ed teacher for the next year has to be there. They said EVEN if your child has a self contained placement with say only 1 class with inclusion, like say JUST Music... a reg ed teacher STILL has to be there I am telling you.. go get the "from emotions to advocacy" book!!!! It's the bomb!!!! heehee A.
