Hi everyone, My family is currently in the process of looking for a different State to move to. My husband has a semi-flexible job, so he should be able to find a job wherever we move to. One of the big reasons we are moving is because of the low quality of special ed available in our current State for our 5 year old daughter with DS ( we have only been in this State for 1 1/2 years). As you can see we are just entering the "real school" age and this has been a very eye opening experience for us. So different from early childhood. Are we crazy to be looking for greener pastures for her? Are some other States really better then others? I would really appreciate any of your thoughts and opinions. Thank you

I'd offer a very uneducated ( ie...nothing to back me up ) response....of YES....some states are MUCH better than others....which ones....not sure..... But of course you are not wrong to look for greener pastures......and this is a great time ( age wise for her).... Good luck with your search and WELCOME to Uno Mas........

We have moved from CA to IL and now to MO. So I can only speak from experience for what worked for us. I did ALOT of online research to cities and school districts and made alot of phone calls to districts that were on my list of "wanted to move here" ones. For me, I need to be on the same page as to what Russell's needs are and if they can be receptive to them. I have had wonderful luck and experiences doing it this way. I would also suggest not going TOO rural if you are looking for quality of care. Some rural areas so have it going on good... but as a whole, sad as it is, most rural areas don't quite have it together like the more urban or suburban areas do.
Depending on what state/s you are interested in, you can search their online dept of ed sites and even county and/or city ed sites which I find helps me out alot. And then posting here at Uno or other places online and ask about specific cities and states always helps!
May I ask what state/s you might be looking into?
Good luck.. and yes, WELCOME TO UNO!!!!! Would love to hear more about your family!!!
A.

I have 2 daughters, Emma is 5 (DS) and Elise is 4. Sounds like you have moved around as much as we have. Emma was born in IL, then spent year 2,3 and 4 in MN, and now we live in OR. We also spent a few months in AZ and FL in between. And we experienced Early Intervention in all those States! We have been looking mostly at the DC suburbs (No VA & SO MD) and Baltimore suburbs (Howard County), but are also considering New York, Texas, Atlanta, we are pretty much all across the board right now.
