Let's just hope things DON'T happen in three's.
This one isn't nearly as tragic as last week's experience (the fellow camper that drowned), but Jason took it really hard.
Both of his goldfish died last night. Me and Brian were kind of shocked at how sad he was, but maybe he was feeling really bad about that on top of the accident from last week? Maybe it was all catching up to him and a little more than he could handle.
The funny part of the story is that I have been telling Brian for about 2 weeks that the fish tank water needed to be changed and that I was amazed these goldfish could live in that water. Lo and behold, he cleans the tank, changes the water and the fish died a couple of hours later. Guess they should have stayed in their murky little existence.
Anyway, he was sooooooooo sad, Brian ran to the store at 8:30 last night to get him two new fish.
Like I said, let's hope there's not a 3rd story to share . . .

Hugs to Jason. I can not fathom how he must be feeling over what happened last week. It would shake anyone up. And now his fish--passing. I wonder if he will let the fish tank be cleaned again.

Awwwww Jessie, give Jason a big hug from us. He has had his fair share of sad stuff for this whole summer. I'm glad he has 2 new fish, and I'll be hoping that they live a long long life!

Jessie,
Give Jason hugs from us. Poor kid!!
I don't know how many fish we've killed by changing the water. My best advice is don't change all of it at once. It thows them into shock.

yes...they DO like dirty water...and if it happens again...think about upgrading from feeder goldfish to something more hardy ...maybe a Beta...feeder goldfish (the really cheap ones) have a very short life span in the first place. One pet store told me they often live no more than a few days.
FYI...Em is still grieving for a doberman that had to be put down at the house where she worked 3 years ago!!!!

BTW we have had gold fish and if you go to the pet store they have this bottle of liquid, can't remember the name right now, anywho you can put a drop or so in the new fresh water and it helps tons with the new tap water for the fish CC ~

HI!!!!!!! I am so sorry bout the golfish and even sorrier bout the child at camp. There is a book called Lifetimes which was a very helpful book to read to Olivia after my bro's death. Although I know she is still confused as she at times prays to Uncle Chris as if HE were God. I know in my heart Uncle Keeks is cracking up there in heaven thinking to hisself awww now this child has got it right.lol (((HUGS))) Steff

Crud!! Hope he is feeling better about all this stuff by now!
As or the water, we used to have a fish tank and for the life of me I can't think of what the bottled stuff is but there are certain elements that fish need to survive. "Clean" water is void of this stuff, and so it is a good idea to keep some of the old water when doing a water change. This promotes the growth of the right balance of "stuff" for the fish. I remembered something like you should keep 10%.
Did you have a service? I know that sounds strange, but maybe that could help Jason with the whole thing? What a tough week!
Jodi

First, THANK YOU to everyone for caring about Jason. I think he's doing ok now - back to normal! Second, I'm always amazed what I can learn from all of you . . . I didn't realize there was so much maintenance to gold fish!! LOL Lastly, Jodi, again - throw us into the neglectful parents category - no services for fishies. Trust me though when Toby (the beloved little dog) dies, we will probably have a massive funeral so there will be closure. Brian & I shudder at the thought of how Jason is going to be when that dog dies. Toby's 15 years old and it's going to happen sooner than later at this point. Jessie

Aha! Let's turn this into a positive thing... the events of the last week can help you mentally prepare for how to react and help Jason cope in the future Jodi

Awww! Some of those feeders hang on forever though...we've had them live to be 7yrs old. I lost my Koi like that last summer. Matt insisted on cleaning the pond on a hot July day & it shocked them.
