Alright, so it may sound like bragging.... alright, so is may BE bragging, but oh well, here it goes... She looked so cute! I could just squeeze her sometimes! (the bragging part was meant about E not about the articel!) :-)
Last week a reporter interviewed Joby, myself, Tia and Amber and Elizabeth about starting our local support group. Then a photographer took some pics at the park of everyone playing (all right, so I hid and the kids played... shoot me!) Anyway, the article was supposed to be on an inside page called "the community section" in our local paper today. Lo and behold, my mother calls this morning (at 6:00am mind you) and is reading the article to me and saying E made the paper! The article actually made the front page... pic and byline above the fold! I'm so glad because we need the exposure to get the kids KWIM. And while she misquoted us a couple of times:(our pedi HAS taken care of kids with DS, and it DOESN'T take us over 1 1/2 hr to get to Lansing, and we WERE invited AND attended Jesse's groups picnic and Buddy Walk and were VERY welcome!) and left lots out (like us talking about all of the support we've received online :-)) overall we were fairly happy with it. I guess you only have so much time and so much space! (I'm hoping that's why the title reads "Couple forms Down support group... not Down syndrome support group). We talked quite a bit about people first language and not having "Downs" kids, etc. So... hopefully the writer is sitting thinking, "gosh, why did they edit it like that after everything the Hymans and I talked about?" But, oh well, they got a great deal of it right. :-) And of course, our daughter is now famous! (can't you see her ... it's her hand right there in front!) oh no, that's Tia's hand... Elizabeth is in the picture too! Tia thought it was very funny to call friends and family to tell them to look for her in the paper!
Sorry to ramble....
Anyway, just thought I'd link it in so everyone could see my daughter's gorgeous hand... can you tell Tia is standing over my shoulder??? haha
