Apparently there was some sort of blow up with Emily's 13 yr old nephew yesterday. Emily sometimes feels the need to "counsel" Katie on child rearing...and Katie sent me this from Emily.
“It’s hard to be 13 when you have strict parents!”
“Everyone has crazy ages in this crazy world.”
“Parents have to stay involved.”
“I am an adult and watch independent movies.” When I asked what kind of movies she said, “Popular.”
“Sometimes 13 year olds get busted.”
“I am an adult and independent. Independent is the hard part. It is part of independence. That’s a big part of being independent.”
“At 13 everyone does dumb things.”
“I’m an expert at 13’s.”
“It’s hard when you have parents.”
“I think that’s it.”
Love,
Katie and Emily

Oh, my! I'm laughing so hard. I love you, Emily, and I wish I could meet you face to face. You have such a wonderful personality. I can remember back 50 years and being 13 was terrible!

As I now have a 13 year old in my house too, I can say Emily hit it on the nose with them all!!
Sharon (maybe she can come help me here, as I have recently been told "no one in this house cares anything about me)

I agree with Emily on being independent. It can be hard, not that I have ever been as independent as her though. Being thirteen is a very different phase. Thirteen is the beginning of the teenage years toward adulthood. All of sudden you think differently and want to distance yourself from your parents. ;D You don't have be thirteen to go through that phase though.........Debbie

Absolutely the hardest part of independence is being independent.
If you stop and really think about that statement, it is very deep. Everyone wants the freedom to do what they want when they want, but we adults realize the responsibility that goes with it often outweighs the freedom.
