False. It used to be true though! It seems like the older I get, the more I hate being cold. I think that's why old folks move to Arizona and Florida! I think I'm ready for Boca Raton!

I have never heard of this either. And the little flappy thing in the back of the throat; the uvula: I always heard it had NO function at all. But hey...........ST's can be a wealth of knowledge! Keep us informed about what you learn.

ROFL Silly Jackie.................no, they didn't pick Pierce to be in the movie for his singing ability! They picked him cause he looks SO good! And I don't think Meryl Streep minded kissing him either!

I love it! We've noticed the same thing with Emily. Even after all the years we've seen it, it's always a surprise when the "maturity spurt" happens.........but pleasant!

I sent her an email about a week ago or so about it.
So far, any time the photo album has gone down......it has always come back in some form. I'm hoping this is no different!

False. I think I've only ordered things online at Aeropostale, American Eagle, and Woodbine House.........and very rarely. My husband, however, loves to order from Goodwill.com! (He's into hockey trading cards)
TPBM thorougly enjoyed being pregnant.

Jess, I'm sorry you're having to go through this, but glad the doc listened to you! He could have just ordered a muscle relaxant for your stiff neck or something! I'm glad you're on your way to getting better. Susan

Hi! Welcome to Uno Mas! We've had quite a few new members who were waiting for their babies to arrive........some had babies with Down syndrome and some later came back and told us their babies were born without Down syndrome. Either way, we DO love babies and will be here for you!!!
My daughter with Ds is 17 years old now. We had no clue about her Ds until about 3 weeks before her birth when I had to have an ultrasound (placenta had been below the baby during the first ultrasound and they had to do another to see if it had moved.......otherwise a scheduled C-section would be needed). I went in for the ultrasound without a care in the world and took our 2 sons with us (ages 3 and 9) to see their baby sister on the screen. It turned into an hour long ultrasound with the tech measuring her femurs and checking her heart and stomach, etc. Very odd to me at the time, but I found out later that they were looking for signs of Ds. She had a stomach defect where her stomach and intestines were not connected at all, and the doc told me that in 99% of all babies with that stomach defect, the baby had Ds. I also had wayyyyyyy too much amniotic fluid, and that was giving me trouble with breathing. So, I had what was called a "PUBS" (peri umbilical blood sampling) test. It was a bit like an amnio, but instead of amniotic fluid, they took her cord blood for testing. And afterward, they drained several liters of amniotic fluid so I could breathe. We found out several days later that the test confirmed that she had Down syndrome. I'm not sure if they even do that test nowdays.
A little over a year later, when I was pregnant with Emily's little brother, we chose to have a "chorionic villi sampling", just so we could be prepared if the new baby also had Ds. Not sure if they do that test now either.
Congratulations on your pregnancy. Please don't hesitate to ask questions.
Susan

WELCOME TO UNO MAS, Jen! So glad you found us!!! I'm looking forward to hearing more about your family and watching your little one grow up. There is no such thing as a silly question here. We've probably all wondered about any and all questions in the past, so ask away! As for curls.........Hmmmm! My hair is straight as a stick, and my husband's has always had a bit of curl. All of our children have just a bit of a wave. My daughter with Ds has just a bit of a wave in her hair; rather than any true curls. When she was a baby, her hair was thick and straight. When I went to the NICU to visit her for the first time, the nurses had pulled her thick hair up at the top of her head and put a bow in it.......LOL at just a few hours old!
Oh, and don't pay any attention to all the curls in Emily's hair in the photo here...........it took hours to put them there!!
Again......Welcome!

Glad you're going to call the doc in the AM. Could be several things, as Cynthia said..............large tonsils narrowing her esophagus could be something relatively easy to fix, so maybe we should pray for that! You're on top of it. See what the doc says and let us know. Watch for a temperature an hour or so after she chokes. It's good that she's coughing! With silent aspiration, the liquids go into the respiratory passages quietly without a struggle and without triggering the urge to cough it out. If she's coughing well, no need to pat her on the back.....she'll cough up the liquid on her own. A good ST can also be a wonderful asset with aspiration.
Oh, and in elderly patients, when they are aspirating, the first thing we do is to take away all straws. Straws can allow more liquid to enter the mouth too fast for them to handle. We sometimes even have to give our patients liquids by teaspoonfuls.
