I just wanted to share with everyone what I have recently been diagnosed with. Lymes Disease! I am still in the shock stage but please be aware that it is so easy to get and you may not even know it. We live in town and I rarely go outside being as I work nights but I was out at my Grandpas over 4th of July weekend and a few weeks later I am so sick. I never found a tick on my body or the tell tale rash that is common, the bite may have been in my hair, and if it werent for a doctor taking me seriously when I said something is wrong with me I would have just continued to get worse. My biggest symptom is a very stiff and painful neck.
Just wanted to share so hopefully no one here goes through what I have the last few weeks. Jess

Jess, I'm sorry you're having to go through this, but glad the doc listened to you! He could have just ordered a muscle relaxant for your stiff neck or something! I'm glad you're on your way to getting better. Susan

How do they DX Lyme's Disease?? Is it a bloodtest? See if I had stiff joints and neck I'd think I had 5th's Disease!!!! That would be scary to know you had Lyme's and no symptoms! Thanks for letting us know and keeping us aware. What will they do for treatment? A.

There was an episode of House where a guy had a tick bite right on his hair line that they missed when they were ruling out Lyme's. They only found it when they were about to operate - 13 saw it & they stalled the operation until a test for Lyme's returned. But, Jess, you didn't need House at all - your very own doctor who was good at listening & taking you at your word that something was wrong managed this diagnosis without nearly killing you 3 times before the end of the episode House Glad that you have a great doc! Get well!

I have had Lyme Disease twice. Each time you get it, it's worse than the time before. The first time I had it was about 6 years ago. I didn't even know until my boyfriend at the time pointed out the rash on the side of my ribcage, just under my arm where I never would have seen it. It looked liked I'd been pegged with a softball.
The second time I had it was 2 years ago. I woke up in the morning feeling "not quite right". I took a shower, and as I stood in front of the mirror brushing my hair, there on the underside of my forearm (where I could only see with mirror) was a HUGE red spot...with the tick embedded in the middle of it.
I was able to get the tick out, (smaller than a barley seed, I have the picture somewhere) and got it into a baggie and headed for the doctor. By the time I got to the doctor I had a fever of 103 and could barely move, my body ached so bad.
I was put on anti's right away, but I spent an entire week in bed, sure that a truck had run over me, then backed over me for a return visit. Every joint ached, I had a fever and chills, my head hurt, it was horrible.
I was told if I get it again it'll be worse, and the next time I get it I'll end up in the hospital on IV antibiotics. We live in a heavily wooded area, (also in MN) so we do regular tick checks. Angela has had ticks embedded in her scalp twice but so far no lyme disease.
It is NOT fun, and nothing to mess around with!

Yes, a blood test. The first time I had it, they just went by the rash. The second time, eventhough I had like, every symptom in the book AND the tick, they still did a blood test for titers.
