My son (Josiah) is 5 years old with down syndrome. He is partially potty trained, he will pee but not poop. He does not have any constipation problems. He is non verbal, however I feel he understands he is suppose to poop in the potty and not in his clothes. But he will not go...so is this common amongst our children???

I feel I am in a similar conflict over private vs. public. My son is 4 years old with down syndrome. The public school only offer half day program 2 1/2 hours a day. Well, i am a single working parent, that really does not work out for us. I am debating to send him to a private full day school, however he will not be able to get any therapy. But the therapy he receives from the public school, i really do not feel it is all that great anyways. My only really concern is speech therapy. My son is 4 and is still not talking yet. Anyway it goes, I will probably get a private speech therapist. I do not want to send him to two different places in a day. i rather he stay in one place to ease my worries.

Hello! I am a new member. I am so glad I stumbled upon this website. I have a son, Josiah 11 months, with ds. He is my only child. I just have been learning as I go along about parenting, ds, and etc...So far my major concern is hearing. He will be getting hearing aids on Monday. Has anyone else experience this?

Josiah was 9 months. He had tonsils and adnoids taken out due to sleep apnea. He would stop breathing 9 times an hour and his oxygen level would be low while asleep. He also had tubes put in his ear.

I am starting to go through the same process with my son Josiah (20 months). I am getting a ped GI and a ph probe done. What does the ph probe consist of... I heard the doc sticks a wire down through the nose. I did not know how really serious this was until I read all of your postings. The doctor thinks my son is asperating due to many pnemonia's and vomitting.
