Sue We live in Ohio too. I was under the impression that all kids with special needs would qualify for the ohio home care waiver (medicaid). However, after being on the waiting list for over a year!!! I just found out that they have changed the laws and Raven will qualify for a different type of waiver (the IO waiver). However, surprise surprise, another waiting list!!! geesh!! My point being, I think these are local waivers, so you might want to contact your county and talk to a case worker/social worker of some kind that can help you. I think they have more the inside track on whats available. Hope this helps!!

Sue-- Yes, we have ARC. We live in Franklin County, and from what I understand, in this county, ARC is more geared towards adult services. We go through FCBMRDD (Franklin County Board of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities). This encompasses ECE (Early Childhood), the specialized schools, and ARC. I know the set up varies from county to county. Which makes it really difficult to find out what you are entitled too. Good luck!!!!!!

just seems like i did all this a couple of months ago. you would think if you do not qaulify for medicad that they would refer you to intake to check about waivers. i think they do not want you to know much about it. sue

Hi...I told you all we live in Amarillo, Tex (where are all the other Texas people...surely we have some!!!!!)..I forgot to tell you what services we get....Emily is 22 and has been getting SSI which all young adults with DS can receive when they turn 18...you need to apply the month BEFORE their 18th bday. She is currently number 154 and holding on the HCS list and is currently receiving minimal services from TDMHMR and Texas Rehab. Her SSI is a whole whoppin' 360.00 a month but will increase a bit when she gets an apartment.
