Hello everyone! I'm a new DS mommy! I also have 3 other children. I've been enjoying my 7 week old daughter Savanna every day. Since shes been born we've been overloaded with information on down syndrome. Its a little overwhelming so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to Uno Mas! My advice is to love your baby. Mine was such an easy and content baby. I have a 5 week old granddaughter who is a big crybaby. Sarah never cried for the first three months. It was great! The first year can be overwhelming because of all the potential health problems. I know we had doctor appointments all the time. Just don't forget she is a baby first. The Down syndrome is secondary. Congratulations on your new daughter. She will bring you so much joy! Chris

Tracey, Welcome to Uno Mas! ! ! Congratulations on the birth of your baby girl! I love her name.
My daughter with Down syndrome is about to turn 20 years old, and the years have flown by! I do remember that it can be overwhelming at first, but just take one day at a time and enjoy all the milestones. Savanna will amaze you every day.
Looking forward to getting to know you and hearing all about Savanna.
Susan

Congratulations on the birth of your little one! My oldest is 8 and was diagnosed with Down syndrome at birth. Our best advice (and it came from a pediatrician in NICU) is to remember that your child is a baby first (just like Chris said). It's so easy to get overwhelmed with the diagnosis if you're not careful. Looking back, most of us regret losing any amount of time "worrying" about things that usually work out just fine. Does your pediatrician have any experience working with children who have Down syndrome? If not, you might print off the recommended health care guidelines and growth charts to give them. ndss.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=70&Itemid=139&limitstart=2ndss.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=71&Itemid=91Welcome to Uno Mas! We can't wait to learn more about Savanna! Kim, Logan (Ds, 8) and Carson (5 1/2)

Hi...welcome to you and little Savanna My daughter Emily is 31 now and lives about 500 miles away from us by choice in a town hear her oldest sister. She is an artist in Austin TX. She was included throughout her school years and graduated with the kids she started kindergarten with and went for two years of post secondary school at Eastern New Mexico/Roswell 200 miles from us in Texas. I can just imagine the 'overload' you speak of. When Emily was born it was pre cyberspace in 1980 and we just had one or two very good books to learn from. I think now days it MUST be a bit confusing with lots of contact with well meaning people (like us LOL) quick to share our experiences. But we are a great source of good information and the people here are super friendly and interested in everyone. We have as a group experienced just about every single thing good and not so good with our children who have DS so you can ask away whenever you feel like it. Meanwhile welcome to our group and as Chris advised...first thing is to just LOVE little Savanna just as you did your other children.

So we just had an assesment done on Savanna's mobility and it looks like as of now we have to work on strengthening her neck, chest and arms. Its not to bad but we're starting physical therapy once a week. Her development was good and on track so we'll do another assesment in 3 months for that. Hopefully all this works out for her.
