Start saving A!!!!!
I called the Holiday Inn, Dayton South today. It is located right off I75 on Dryden Road. They have 13 rooms with king sized beds AND sofa sleepers in the room. The group rate is $91, and I told her we'd take those 13 rooms! They were going FAST cause of the infamous soccer tournament. They have NO rooms with double beds at all.....and neither does any of the other hotel rooms I called. But hey.....a king sized bed for the moms and dads and a sofa sleeper for the kids sounds ok for us!! The woman faxed me the contract, I signed it, and faxed it back. So, we're IN! I hope this is ok with everyone, but I was getting nervous that we wouldn't find a hotel at all. This place has a Holidome and hot tub, and exercise room. I asked her about kids eating free, and she said "not for the group rate". They do have the breakfast buffet, but it is $6.95 per person. I think we'll be heading for McDonald's for breakfast! I asked what businesses are around the hotel, and I was told......almost NOTHING! Sorry! But we can drive to Chuck E. Cheese's and I'll start looking for a good park.
SO.....is this ok with everyone????? We need all 13 rooms filled!! There is also a Super 8 motel right across the street if we run out of rooms....or in case someone wants one a bit cheaper. If anyone wanted to stay at the Super 8, I KNOW it would not be a problem for you to swim at the Holiday Inn with us.

Susan~Thanks so much for all the hard work you've done on this! I do have one concern though~it sounds like the soccer tournament is going to be there again. Now, I was not there for the last get together in Dayton but I remember a main complaint was a cold pool and you found out that it was because of the soccer tour. and such a large crowd. That being said, I really hate a cold pool! I don't want to step on Robins toes, but should we start looking in another area? One where we could still hang out by the pool and the drive wouldn't be longer for Robin? Anyway, that's just my 2 cents. Also, Bernie's sister works for Marriott Hotels and he asked her to look into any Marriotts in the Dayton area and about getting a good rate for our group. However, Bernie's mom passed away this morning so I don't think that will be high on the priority list right now. But maybe in a few weeks he could bring it up again. Let me know what you think~I realize that a few weeks may be too late to start looking into hotels for Labor Day. OK~done for now. Let me just say that I'm really looking forward to this get together! Mary L.

Hmmmm, K, SUSAN, I just checked the dates and checked Map Quest which says it would take us 10 hours to get there. Now driving all those hours just to meet up with you guys is well worth it ;D BUT girl you have to tell me whats in that area to do besides the pool at the hotel. I know Colin and NOOOOO way he will drive 10 hours just to swim in a pool and chat, cause Chris is a man on the move and needs to do things Soooo help me girl what else is there to do there?? Any amusements parks close by, like maybe a water park or Great Adventure or something?? Do you know, might help me sell him on doing this

CC~ Girl do I have GOOOOOOD news for you!!!! Dayton is only about 35 minutes from Cincinnati......despite what Robin keeps saying. Cincinnati (actually Mason) has KING"S ISLAND...which is a wonderful amusement park that has a water park right inside!!! If you ONLY wanted a water park, Mason also has "The Beach" waterpark right across the street from King's Island. There is also "Coney Island" in Cincy......it has a HUGE pool with slides and some carnival type rides too. There is an air force museum with HUGE airplanes (FREE) in Dayton. I'm only getting started!!! We also find a good park with plenty of space for the kids to run and play, while the parents sit and visit. That's one of the BEST parts of the get together. (and we always manage to EAT a lot then too!!) TRUST ME CC........your family will LOVE this, and you will NOT have to spend all day each day beside the pool. We drove 10 hours to Sandusky, and it was WELL worth the trip. PLEASE come! Susan

Oops!! Totally forgot half of what I planned to post! Mary, please give Bernie a hug, and tell him I'm so sorry to hear about his loss.
Finding a hotel is always the hardest part of all....especially during the soccer tournament weekend. Last year, we were not able to find a hotel at all and ended up staying in Sharonville...not far from Cincinnati, rather than staying in Dayton. ALL the Dayton hotels will fill up quickly for that weekend. On our way from Michigan to TN, we stopped at several hotels and even went and put our toes in the pools. But I couldn't promise that any of those pools would be warm by Labor Day. I'm not at all opposed to staying in a different hotel or a different city........I'll be there no matter where it is! I hope everyone will post up and let us know what to do. I left the Holiday Inn contract at work, but I'll check on Monday and let you know what the cut off date is.
EVERYBODY JOIN US!!

www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/hi/1/en/hd/DAYSO?&I found the official web page for the Holiday Inn in Dayton. You can look toward the bottom at the features of the hotel, and there are a few photos. It says there are a few free games such as ping pong and air hockey in the Holidome and volleyball, etc outside. Susan#nosmileys

THANKS Susan for the info, I will talk to Colin later today and see. I know he has been bugging me to make a reservation at the beach but maybe I can change his mind
I think I will check how much to fly also, 10 hous driving is a point against this in Colin's mind, I am sure, BUT we shall see what I can do

Robin, Robin, Robin.......I am SURE no one is saying (or even thinking) that you are being witchy about the location of the Labor Day get together. I think we have all been concerned about those pesky soccer players at one point or another.....although, really they didn't cause us any problems 2 years ago at all. (LOL, I'm sure our own kids splashed out at least as much water as the soccer kids). Personally, I enjoyed having a lot of other kids at the hotel.....there was mayhem, and OUR kids were not the ones causing it! (as Jordan's mom, I'm very happy about that!!!) I say relax.....we'll figure out all the specifics about this get together...we always do, and we always have SO much fun. I can NOT wait. ~ Just one question here.......is anyone interested in going to King's Island on Labor day? We'd have to check out of the hotel that morning anyway....so why not head to King's Island for the day????? One last roller coaster and one last water slide for the season anyone??????

Ok......here is a possible alternate location for the Labor Day get together. What about COLUMBUS Ohio??? I did a quick Yahoo maps search and put in as many of the cities as I could remember for where everyone lives......Saginaw Michigan, Chicago IL, St. Louis MO, Newcastle Indiana, NJ, PA, NY, Conneticut.........for each of these places, Columbus was less than an hour different. (Closer for those on the East coast and farther for the others......but around 6 hours is the farthest) It's 7 and a half hours from our house, but I am OK with that.
Would anyone prefer Columbus? (LOL Alice and Annie C, I'm sure you would!!) We could avoid the soccer tournament issue by doing this. Otherwise, I'm clueless. Someone let me know what to do. I won't cancel the block of rooms in Dayton yet, but we really need to decide soon.

There is also a Holidome in Springfield OH (30 miles NE of Dayton). I have never beent here, just found it on the holiday inn website. I left a message for the lady in charge of group rates but she hasn't called back yet, so I don't know if they have enough rooms left.
I am fine with Columbus also.

Ok just checked Columbus, it's 3 1/2 hours from us but then again I just made it to and from Kings Island each trip took me 3 1/2 hours so who knows maybe we can make it to Columbus in 2 Robin hey if necessary you guys can always crash here overnight and we can leave in the morning from here. You can even test out the trailer but if you did that don't get too comfortable as that is still waaaaaaaaay toooooooo far for me to pull that trailer lol. I was talking to Chuck about doing Kings Island again we did have a blast but we are thinking with it being a long weekend that park is going to be waaaaaaaaay too crowded, a little side note though they do have disability accessible rides for the kids, we had to go in through the exits of the rides, for the bigger rides we did the same thing but would have to get the pass book we got through guest services stamped and they would give us a time to come back. I did also mention to them about maybe starting a discounted disability ticket with perhaps a limited number of rides, it just seemed a little crazy to pay full price for Justin when he could only ride certain rides granted we rode them over and over again Also I know that about 45 min. from Dayton is the Neil Armstrong space museum we went 2 years ago.
