We are home from our vacation, and now I'm ready to really start talking about and planning the Uno Mas get together!!! I thought I'd Re-post the contact info for the hotel and then we can use this thread to discuss the specifics of this trip.
"The contract is signed and accepted by the Spring Hill Suites for our get together.............so that means everyone can start to call the hotel directly to reserve your room. The blocked rooms are in my name (Susan Pace), so just tell them you want to book a room in the block of rooms held by me. The phone number is: 1-412-653-9800.
The rooms are all suites, and have one king sized bed and a sofa sleeper.
VERY IMPORTANT INFO: On June 23rd, any rooms that have not been booked will be released for the public to reserve. Ask them to be sure, but I believe you can reserve the room and give your credit card number and still cancel if you are not able to go.
If you have questions, ask me!!"
OK........now the things I'm wondering about are: 1. Who would LOVE to be in charge of this event???? Surely someone would enjoy making group arrangements at the amusement park, etc. I've done it several times, and it's tons of fun. Someone volunteer......please?
2. We talked about going to Kennywood and to Sandcastle water park on Saturday and Sunday. However, I have received a few emails about Idlewild park (and I think there might be a water park inside that one). Any thoughts on this?? The hotel is closer to Kennywood. I am fine with sticking with Kennywood, but would be happy to switch if the group would prefer Idlewild.
3. We have done "Ladie's Night Out" most years, and it has worked out pretty well to let the hubbies go out for dinner together first while the moms feed the kids and get them ready for bed........then we go out together later. I've always had a great time hanging out with the other moms for a few hours just to talk. Do we want to do this again?
I'm getting excited! I'm going to start another thread for a roll call for the trip, so we know how many families will be there.

Hi Susan,
We are coming as well. Just have been busy so I have not had time to post. We just got back from our cruise Thursday evening and I had to work on Friday. We leave tomorrow Monday for Vegas and will be back home late on Friday the 23rd. I can help do whatever it takes. You have done such a great job in the past I don't know if I can do as good of job as you did. I don't mind being in charge of the amusement park as long as that is what everyone wants to do. I can work on it when I get back. Is there a group rate that you know about? And which parks do we want to do?
Let me know.

Susan, I did get my family season passes to Idlewild & yes, it is way friendlier~ they have an all inclusive ticket, free parking & free pavillions (you can bring in outside foods).Lots of daily shows there on about 5 different stages. It's all in a wooded, more victorian & western atmosphere. There's a huge kids activity area~ swinging bridges & roped courses with zip lines & those turtle scooters & stuff + another kiddieland. As I mentioned to you there are lots of special deals with them....Kennywood is great too, just a totally different atmosphere. It's more of a theme park with asphalt & a big city atmosphere.(only 1 show this year & it's a high diving show 3x a day though there was a HS choir performing when we were there) I've been to both already this season. I can scan in the Idlewild schedule brocheure that I got last week when we were there. Oh & BTW~ if you have a Handicapped Parking tag parking is free at Kennywood too right up at the front gate. Kennywood has exit passes available at the ft gate where you get your tickets. Idlewild they're not necessary~ only maybe 3 rides ever seem to have lines there. (Scooter, Wild Mouse & Rollo Coaster) I was gonna suggest we do Kennywood & sandcastle over the weekend then whoever is staying till Mon, we do Idlewild then & if anyone wanted run up to the Flight 93 memorial &/or Ft Ligonier. we could possibly get some more free tickets to Idlewild~ right now I have 2 & can get 5 people in free with my passes on Monday's provided we swap around to ride with each other. (people you get in free have to be in the same car.) I may be going to Idlewild Monday so I could stop in guest services & reserve a pavillion if I know what day we wanted.

Susan, Let me know too what night you have in mind for ladies night & I can make reservations at Olive Garden or one of the places right there near the hotel...I believe there's a Chilli's, a Red Lobster, Texas Roadhouse & maybe an Outback all right outside the mall on variouse sides, then a bunch of fast food places & I think a Ruby Tuesday's attached to the mall. Century Three is the name of the big mall right there. We'd also talked about South Park at one point....let me know & I can help you coordinate.

We will be there on Friday afternoon and will be going home on Monday morning so we will not be able to do Idlewood Park if it is on Monday. What does everyone want to do on Saturday and Sunday any preferances? If we go out what night will it be? We probably need to have some idea ahead of time although things could change too.

How about if we go to Kennywood on Saturday.....all day? I'll feel better if we have the first day planned before we get there, and I'd LOVE it if you would handle the group tickets Joyce!! For Sunday, we could do Sandcastle.......or South park's wave pool........or we could spend that day hanging out at the hotel pool and just visiting.
Will everyone still be there on Sunday evening? I was thinking we could do the Ladie's night out thing that night.
What do you all think?

We are coming in Friday night (after work). I'm not sure if we will do the Amusement park thing cuz Eric is not much on rides....we may just hang around the pool on Saturday. And "sniff"...we have to leave sometime on Sunday due to us both working on Monday. But we probably won't leave till afternoon.

Susan,
Any idea on the flooding in PA. Tony said that there may be some roads out on our way there. Does Suzi know? Let me know because we need to know before we come.
I will plan the group tickets as long as we can still come. It all depends on the flooding out that way. Hopefully it will be okay.

If we do the amusement park on Saturday, how many are coming?

I went on the Kennywood websit and put down 20 people until we know the amount. We only get a discount if you have 20 people. I don't even know what the kids prices are regularly, but I think the group rate is probably the best rate. It said that you have to register to get the group rate. I can change it when we see how many. If my older son comes we will have 5. So is anyone else besides Susan planning on the amusement park? Also Sunsan before you mentioned doing the water park for a day and then the amusement park at night for a special rate of 22.95 is that still an option. The water park would be good only on a hot day. I don't like it much if it is cool out because I get cold easily. But whatever works for everyone else we can comply. I just hope the flooding will not affect us and we can still come.

Ok.........what if we did the water park on Saturday and came back to the hotel in time to do the Ladie's night thing, and then hung out at the hotel together on Sunday till 5pm. Then, those who want to go to the amusement park can do the evening thing and those who need to go home Sun night can do that? I'm just thinking that those who might go home Sun evening would miss the Ladie's time, unless we did it on Sat. We are staying till Monday, and we'll decide what we do that day..........depends on $$$!!! Have to reserve a bit for the NDSC conference a few days later.

Ok...........let me ask you all this: I keep remembering the very first Uno Mas get together where we realized later that we had planned TOO many activities and left too little time for simply hanging out together and visiting. Everyone was totally exhausted by Sunday morning and just hung out sharing photos in Robin's room. That was one of the best times of all!!
I think that most of us are excited about getting to know each other and letting our kids play together, and it's hard to do that while running in different directions at an amusement park.......in my opinion.
SO.........what if we did the water park on Saturday (we learned last year that it is much easier to hang out and watch the kids and talk in the water), do the Ladie's night on Saturday night after that. And on Sunday, we can either hang out all day at the hotel and visit.........or plan a picnic at Southpark?? For those who really wanted to go to Kennywood (I know my kids might want to go there at least for a few hours!), we could do that on Sunday evening and use that combo pass for like $22.
Does this sound better? Worse??

Susan,
The last idea sounds good to us. I like the water park all day and then to go out on Saturday night. We probably would like the amusement park on Sunday night as well. So how do we get the $22 combo tickets?
