So let me get this right..... The aid is old enough she has started having some disabilities of her own? I would think the school must be making some kind of accommodation for her to be employed? Maybe it's time to remind them that disabled is disabled and turn around is only fair!!! Worked for me last year with Collin's aid that was having trouble getting around and chasing after kids because of bad knees etc... They made arrangements for her to sit to do her job....I politely reminded them that like the aid Collin has a disability but his is cognitive and his accommodations are just as important as hers...how would she feel if she were forced to quit because of her disability? Tones changed dramatically!!! Connie

Here's how it works where I am. The bus SCHEDULE says "9:05", but we have to allow 10 minutes either earlier or later. In Angela's case, there are two kids who get on before her who are in wheelchairs. If both of those kids are out on the same day, the bus is gonna be REALLY early! (this has happened a few times)
BUT...if they get to my house early, they cannot leave until "9:05". Yes, they could be sitting there 10 minutes. One time they got there REALLY REALLY early (I think it was like 8:50 or something) Obviously I wasn't quite ready to get out the door yet, so didn't even know they were there. The bus company called me to let me now the bus was out there "but no rush, they're early so get there when you can."
The bus can end up very late for the same reasons. Lets say the first kid on the bus (who's in a chair) is not quite ready to get on the bus yet, (the bus will wait for 2 minutes and honk in this case.) By the time he's loaded and everything, the bus is now 5 minutes behind schedule. Pick up the next kid (also in a chair) and the same thing happens. Oh, and this is REALLY COMMON in bad weather when the moms don't want to bring thier kid out until the bus is there. (can't blame them one bit) Anyway, it doesn't take long before the bus is 10 or 15 minutes late.
This is the first year that I can let Angela go to the end of the driveway by herself. (it's long and I can't really see it from the street.) I have the dogs out there, so if anyone came up to her my dogs would go nuts barking. (but the dog's can't actually get to where she is because I have invisible fence.) so at least I'd know to go looking at what's up. OH, and my dogs have been trained by our routine! They know that when Angela gets on the bus in the morning it's time to eat. So as soon as it pulls away they're all 4 at the door wanting IN...NOW!!!!!
When she comes home our driver knows if the dogs are out, we're home. No dogs...something is up and there is nobody here. RUH ROH! This DID happen once last year when my car broke down. (this is one of my biggest fears when I run errands while Angela is at school.) The bus came and the driver let Angela off, the dogs weren't waiting to say hello. She called Angela back to the bus and had dispatch call the house. Nope...no answer. They brought her to my emergency drop-off instead.

We too have a 10 min window for the bus. Some days can be longer depending on traffic, weather, etc. BUT lucky for us we can see the bus pull up from the front of the house. So Chris never has to wait outside in bad weather. Chris has quite a long bus ride, 45 min. to an hour each way and Monday it was over an hour and half and still no Chris home from school I called the bus company and it seems where his school was they had quite a bad storm which caused some flooding, hence him being home so late. The part that gets me is if I were late getting home over a 1/2 hours they would be screaming "You should have called..." but when they are going to be that late, hmmm they feel no need to call me They are funny too they ask you to call if you child is sick and not going in on the bus in the morning and I do just that yet the driver shows up anyway Just my thoughts, but some of these people that work for the bus companies need to get over themselves CC ~

CC said: but some of these people that work for the bus companies need to get over themselves Ok, this is kind of off the subject, but kinda not. I have a good friend who's one of the bus drivers in our district, both regular and special ed. She has a student who happens to have DS who has some significant behavioral issues. She spent one conversation going on and on about this student, and how his parents clearly don't handle it well. When he gets off the bus and they tell mom what happened they say "nothing" about it. I reminded her that 1) she does not have any idea what happens behind closed doors. 2) she is not a behavioral specialist and 3) she is completely out of line for forming this opinion based on the 30 minutes she spends with the kid each day and 4) she has just broken all the rules of confidentiality by telling me about it!!!! (she used his name, where he lived...EVERYTHING!) Boy, if Angela's bus drivers held the key to her behavioral issues, I wouldn't be having any problems, I sure wouldn't need to be spending thousands of dollars in state money to find the answers!

I've had great understanding bus drivers ;D The only part of this school system I liked One thing I used to do is get the bus aide's cell phone number & if John-John was sick, I could call her directly & tell them not to stop. When I called the bus company, they'd just be relaying the message as they pulled up at the house or later. Pat

the bus program is a project in itself if you are lucky and have consistant drivers you can build a rapore with them so that the schedual is tweaked a little when they get to your home tell them she wet i need to change her, dont go out untill you see the bus, have dispatch call your home when eta is 1 min or so i dont know i am a parent too that struggles and i found that a good bd helps unfortunatly that is the only the tip of the iceburg i have to get id bracalets because my son got lost when you think about it it is our responsability to handle everything i guess the district " just assist'

when we went to disney land i used a marker and wrote our names and room numbers on victorias arm ... plus we had dog tags made for her..... which reminds me every year we send our kids to school and the teacher writes in marker my two lil kids names on their bookbags which is the number one thing ur not spose to do,, you never put your childs name on his items where anyone can read it........ because of bad people , they use it to get familiar with kids........ i guess the teachers never watch americas most wanted.........

Wow. I wouldn't want these people coming within arms reach of my kid. How can you stand this attitude from them? Are they this nasty with all the kids? Yuck.

I don't understand....why are they so upset because she's asleep? Heck, Collin fell asleep quite often last year and I/we would either wake him up or just pick him up and carry him in. So, I don't understand the problem. Bus/car rides are hard for some kids. Connie

i figured out wy they are so annoyed , they are over worked!! there is after all four kids on that bus.. including victoria,, it must be stressfull driving around all those four different places,, putting on all those four different kids....i mean i guess i should cut them a break,, i know how hard it is to watch four kids, especially when two of them are strapped into their seats!! and the noise level on that bus!!! omg!!! i think one of them was singing to himself!!! it was total mayhem!!!! i know i would be a nervous wreck... i mean there were FOUR OF THEM !!!! theres always a bad egg in a group of kids , especially a group as big as FOUR!! i think the one that was quietly singing to himself should be taken off the bus,, hes a total distraction to the bus driver,, she can hardly hear her a. m. radio!!! with all that noise i dont see how they can talk about me behind my back,,, it must be really hard,, i feel sorry for them...

so beth and i went to victorias parent teacher conference,my wife arrived with a bad attitute so i spent most of my time keeping her calm and running interference,,, the teacher was amazed by the fact that victoria can say a three syllable word like hamburger,, it makes us wonder how much victoria is learning and are they teaching her up or down....... then the teacher decided it was time to relay a message from the bus driver and the aid........... when victoria gets on the bus i usually pick her up and place her on the top step in the bus... or if she is asleep i hand her to the aid...... now remember the aid is older and overwieght and doesnt seem to ambulate very well.......... well they told me they think its dangerous to put victoria on the top step as she may fall backward ......uh.....into my arms i guess.. its much better for this old lady to hang over the stair well while she tugs victoria up the steps,,, im thinkin if victoria suddenly pulls back this old lady is gonna fall on my daughter!! so anyway the teacher gave me the message again that they dint want me to place victoria on the top step and i blew up....... about the aid ,the driver , and their attitude, and i asked if victoria does manage to escape from the bus how is the aid going to catch her? i was so mad i had my arms clasped to my sides because my hands were shaking so badly.... the teacher told me to take it up with the bus coordinator, he was the boss i told her no....... i am the boss!!! it went down hill from there....... after i got my breath back i apologized to her as she was only the messenger and i was taking out my fustration on the wrong person........ so today i took victoria to the bus and the door opens ........ and victoria wont get on the bus........ and i start laughing in my head......... and victoria wont get on the bus......... and im laughing louder ...in my head... and the cars start lining up ........ and victoria wont get on the bus.. and they are trying to entice her on the bus...... and i never crack a smile... as i half heartidly tell victoria to get on the bus........ and VICTORIA WONT GET ON THE BUS....... and i just look at them and shrug my shoulders innocently......... and the cars are turning around because the bus has the road blocked....... so finally i say victoria get on the bus please and she gets on the bus .. i smile at the driver and the aide and walk back into my house ... laughing inside my head......... just wait till tomorrow............

this bus thing is keeping you on your toes. i like "i 'm the boss" good that she got on the bus and it is just another part of the SYSTEM that can get fustrating. if victoria gets on the bus with a verbal promt ,why were you placing her on the step? you need to keep doing what works for your child because sounds like "They" do not want to bother . let the aid run sounds like your daughter will give her some needed excersise

because its cold outside i wait till the bus gets there then i carry victoria to the bus from my house that is wy i put her on the top step because i already have her picked up....it seems silly to me that i have to put victoria down so she can climb the bus steps when all i have to do is place her there...
