My brother is 76, and he is my only sibling. Two weeks or so ago he was diagnosed with large B cell non-hodgkins lymphoma. As I understand it, that is a form of leukemia.
We won't know until after next week if this has spread. The doctor is scheduling a CT scan to see if there are more cancer spots in his abdomen. I know that he had a malignant growth removed and that is what brought about the diagnosis. I guess the growth doesn't necessairly mean that the cancer has spread.
My brother is very depressed, and he commented on Friday that he didn't know if he'd be willing to undergo chemo. I hadn't seen him in a couple of weeks, and he looks like he's dropped a huge amount of weight...pounds he can't afford to lose because he was already thin.
My job is to support whatever decision he makes, and to try and do it with as much peace and grace as I can muster under the circumstances.
My family would appreciate your prayers. My brother and his home have always been the haven for me and for my kids. They all love Uncle Bill.

I'm so sorry, Char. That is a difficult diagnosis, and the waiting must make you feel helpless. He is fortunate to have you to be his safe haven during this time. We will say prayers for your brother for healing and strength to face the challenges ahead. (((((HUGS))))))

((HUGS)) Char, We'll be praying for your bro. Hope the tests come out well. Let us know how it goes. The doc thought my bro might have non-hodgkins lymphoma & was optimistic about his outcome. Turns out that was not what my bro had. Pat

Char I will be thinking of you and your Uncle Bill and his family. And he is right...the decision has to be his...but his decision will affect you all, won't it.
I hope he finds peace in whatever direction he goes ant that all of you do too. Please keep us posted because it won't be easy on him or you all no matter what he does.

Thank you, everyone. I feel so valued and loved when I come here. You truly are part of my family, and I appreciate your prayers so very much. As soon as we can get any information, I'll pass it along. As I now understand things, we are waiting for the insurance to finally OK the procedure he needs. I don't wait well.
