What a tough decision. Lucky for you, Emily can give you her opinion on the situation. Unfortunately, there's not many choices available.
Here in Michigan there really isn't much either. If only we had enough money right now we would purchase a property that's for sale in our area. It actually is a 3-unit setting that would be PERFECT to have these little rental apartments (8 total) and a small home for the manager. The place was an old motel - the kind that you could rent for more than a night - so they are small, but all have kitchens. PERFECT for people that want to live independantly but couldn't quite handle living completely independantly nor could handle the upkeep of anything larger.
The asking price is killer cheap - but it needs a TON of refurbishment. Hopefully I'll hit the lotto tomorrow night and then 7 of you guys can move to Michigan and rent a unit. CC - you can manage it!! LOL Hey, a girl can dream, right?

Sorry - just catching up on this. I'm so sorry you guys have to constantly worry about things. It seems like it takes forever to get the answers too!!
How is Chris feeling? He's probably just waaaayyyy focused on the big countdown for Disney, isn't he?!

Jason loves to fish and is pretty good at. He's not squirmish about hooking the bait, but not really crazy about handling the fish that he reels in. He probably would love to hunt, but we think he might like guns a little too much. Brian has taken him hunting with him before, but has not handed over the rifle! There really isn't anything you or your husband shouldn't try with Parish. Just like any other kid you never know what they're going to like to do and do well at. Jessie

Ellie will be 4 in November and we are definitely going to try Barbies this year. She's all about being a princess too, so cute at that age!
Her birthday falls on the Tuesday after Halloween so we are having her b-day party on Halloween day (Saturday) . . . she will actually get to dress up as a princess for the entire day and night. Should be fun.

Glad to hear Ethan and Aidan are learning not to mess with momma's instructions!
We actually left Jason home alone the other day - EEEEEK - and it was actually Brian's idea, imagine that! Granted, it was for about 10 minutes, but when you've had a runner it takes years to build up trust.
Same with food. It was just pitiful years ago with Jason and his food preferences, everything had to be cooled so much it really had to have tasted disgusting. Now, OMG, there's nothing he won't eat. Pure joy on me and Brian's faces when he slops up his egg with a piece of toast or dives into a bowl of hot soup that has MANY ingrediants!!!
I'll sign your form, Sheryl!! LOL

There are plenty of 'short' people that are not obese. There are plenty of 'short' people who play regular sports (and Special Olympics doesn't have a height requirement either) . . . so in my opinion, I wouldn't mess with her natural growth . . . but that's just my personal choice.
Good luck with your decision, it sounds like you are really struggling with this one.

Hi Sheryl, We FINALLY got our BW date set . . . it's been crazy getting it nailed down this year. Our CADSA BW is Sunday, September 27th at Potter Park Zoo in Lansing. I'm hoping to make it up to yours on the 13th. Can't wait to see Lilly (and Elizabeth too, of course)! For you other Michiganders - you're welcome to join us. The BW info will be on our website in the next day or so: www.lansingdownsyndrome.org. Jessie

I have no problem with mental retardation when it's used in the appropriate way. I'm actually surprised that intellectual 'disability' is the preferred term though. At least as far as the Ds national groups go, they focus on our kids' abilities rather than disabilities. I don't know as if there is a term everyone would be able to agree on!

Hi There,
I saw that MB posted she was going to be in Grand Rapids for a lecture. MB - Amy A. had said that your group was going to be in our neck of the woods this fall, so I was hoping you were going to be the one speaking!
Is there a date set yet?
Laura, Sheryl, Amanda . . . any other Michiganders - we could have a mini Uno get together!!

Hello,
First, Jason's doctor at U of M is Dr. Joseph Hornyak. He is the "Down syndrome" doctor at U of M. We really, really like him as does Jason. We got a referral from Jason's regular Pediatrician at MSU to go see him about Jason's anger management issues and he is the one that prescribed his Zoloft. We were able to get in to see him in a reasonable amount of time.
His office is not on the U of M campus, but still there in Ann Arbor on Eisenhower Parkway and is one of the U of M satellite locations. MUCH easier to navigate to this office building rather than the actual hospital campus!!
Office number: 734.936.7175
Their staff is excellent! Good luck!
