Damara's typical day is rise at 6:00ish am, will fuss until someone gets up and puts on Gullah Gullah Island...She will prep for school and then off to the bus by 7:15. School is broken into 2 areas...1 class with special needs children, 1 teacher and 2 aides (only 4 children in the class), she spends approx. 1/4 of her day there, the rest is with the typical children in Kinder. She has best friends (girl friends) at school. One in particular that just adores Damara. Teacher says they don't even need to communicate verbally, they just both "get" each other. Then Buss ride home to do some work with Daddy on letters, numbers, patterns whatever Daddy can get her to participate with. She is allowed 1 show of Gullah Gullah before dinner then off to bed by 7:30ish....Damara gets 90 mins a week of speech and 60 min of OT a week at school. She is not doing well with speech, so we are looking into private also. She has already been approved for summer school or ESY as they call it here (extended school year), due to the regression that happened from school winter break. Guess that's it...She is a Hoot, great sense of humor and so very loving...she is just a doll!

Trish...so good to hear update on Andrew. He is such a inspiration to me...He & Damara are the same age and he is doing so much more than her. I can only hope that it's just around the corner for us. LOVE that he has developed a great sense of humor...that will take him far! Take care!

They will revaluate her every month for 15 mins as we have added to her IEP. So, as she changes so will her Technology! We are so very excited by this , can't wait to see the "speaking" device. Guess we won't get to see it until after the holiday break though...

Well, we had our ARD meeting today to only go over the assistive technology that they were testing on Damara for at school. She is required to be tested on the computer as all children are at her school. She could not use the mouse, we tried 3 different size and style mouses for her. None of them worked, by the time she got the pointer over the answer she would run out of time and therefore failing EVERY test. Well, they ordered and got a touch screen for the computer. She has blown everyone away. She is testing wonderfully and is so pleased with herself that she can do it! The only problem is she comes home and starts hitting our monitor, I tried to explain that Mommy & Daddy cannot afford such a thing...she is too funny! They also have incorporated a picture board (electronic) that says phrases that she presses. I haven't seen this in action, but they say she is catching on and that they will allow it to come home. We are going to ask to send it home for the Christmas break...but she has improved so much just with these 2 items. I am so very happy they were willing to invest into these items for her! We are so happy...I hope to be able to "play" with her device over the break, I want to see how she communicates with it!
