Hello my friends..
need to ask if y'all can say a prayer for my mom - she had a blood test last week and her liver enzymes were elevated....very much so in a 3 month period that they thought they mixed up her results w/ someone else's. In the meantime she went for a sonogram which showed inflammation in the bile duct. This could be nothing or it could be serious. We won't know for a week probably.
So,please - pray for my mom that she's OK and only gets good news back. I'm going to be a wreck til we find out -- anyways -- thanks for any and all prayers and positive thoughts, laurie

Steff - Thanks -- I don't know what the LFTs were, I told her to find out for me. But it must be something significant...her cholesterol also dropped a huge amount in 3 months - that part I don't understand, because if the liver was mis-functioning, would it be working so well as to be able to process even more cholesterol? In addition to those #s being elevated her bile ducts are enlarged. So, it could be drug induced hepatitis - a good case scenario - all the way to the worst... I can't tell you how scared I am, replaying the possible scenarios in my head. I lost my dad when I was 16, and my mom has always been my rock. anyways, thank you both for the good thoughts and prayers. I'll update you when i find out anything new. laurie

Laurie... HI!!!! My hubbys cholesterol is REALLY LOW and he is a BIG man. His total blood cholesterol level is less than 100. His DOC said it is one of the perks of "liver disease."(if you can say PERKS). Lemme know what the levels are.Go to this addy... TEXT You can sign up for delphi for free. Then if ya can't find the info you are looking for go to the top where it says related forums. Then go to MORE liver failure messages. There is a lot of info on drug induced liver dysfunction. IMKINDLY runs both the boards. She is the info goddess and any and all ?'s you may have she'll find the answer. Also you can post the lab results and ask all what they think and they may have some questions you can ask the doctor.GOOD LUCK!!!! HUGS STEFF My hubbys alt and ast are about 150-175. Different results show different diagnosis. For example my hubbys show he most likely has chronic hep c which he does but someone with alt ast in the 300's and higher show a lot of times that they are alcoholic and suffer from drug induced cirrohsis.(tylenol, vicodin etc)

Steff - I'm not sure what any of her #s are...she didn't ask when she spoke w/ the Dr, but I asked her to find out for me. She's been taking Zocor (cholesterol drug) for many yrs - and recently started Bextra (arthritis) - about 3 weeks ago. Both can cause an increase in the LFTs but not sure why the bile ducts would be inflammed by that. anyways, she had the CAT yesterday and results should be back today or tomorrow. My stomach is in knots!! anyways, thanks for the info, I really appreciate it!! -- I'll let you know if I need anything and also the #s once I find them out. and thanks all for the prayers -- keep 'em coming! laurie

Robin - thanks for asking...I have been on edge these past 2 days -- she figured she'd call today at 3 if she hadn't heard by then so I get home just a little after 3pm (picking Meghan up from school) She called the office and - CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS - the darned dr's had gone home for the weekend. So she asked the nurse - you know, if I was dying would they have called me? And she said yes, had it been urgent they would have called --but I'll have the dr call you tomorrow no matter what... so that has sort of put my mind at ease -- but still no news... thanks again for asking and for all the prayers! hopefully I'll have some good news to report tomorrow morning! laurie

Awwww LAURIE, Prayers still going out till you hear first hand from the Doc bout the test results for your Mom.
Not sure this will help calm you girl, but many years ago my Mom had a cat scan done and they do read them right then, well at least they did for hers and they would not let her leave the hospital from what they found. Sooo my point being, no call from the Docs could very well be very good news ;D and I will keep thinking positive thoughts for you and your MOM.
Post up as soon as you know.
HUGS coming out from New Jersey.
