Emily has a Nintendo DS, and loves it!! There are various games on it, but she also enjoys taking pictures with it. It entertains her on trips and she keeps it at school with her.

Ok, 'fess up. Which one of our members has hired Asian Escort Services through Uno Mas??? I'm just sure that has to have happened, because nearly every day I have to delete 5 to 10 posts that are placed in random areas, advertising for Asian escorts!!
At times, I consider not going to the trouble of deleting the posts.........they are ridiculous and annoying at best. Then, I realize that they detract from what we are all here to do: support each other and enjoy this site. So, I'll keep deleting, banning, modifying, etc.
I'm mostly just kidding here, but does anyone know of a way to prevent these kinds of posts from continuing? I guess it's just the risk we take when we are a totally open group.

Renee', I can only agree with Sharon.........mood swings, puberty, etc.........just stinks that our girls have to go through that stuff. I always felt like it was a shame that Emily had to go through all the hormonal stuff when she was at a maturity level of a much younger girl who wasn't equipped to deal with it all. (Not to mention the fact that her speech delays made it hard for her to verbally express herself too.) You aren't doing anything wrong! I think all of us tend to feel more free to vent and express our frustrations most to the ones we love, so you got the brunt of Lauren's emotions today. Years ago, we had a problem with Emily and she simply would not even try to talk it over with me, so we went to the Down syndrome clinic and a counselor had so much success with getting her to talk about how she felt. Maybe a counselor could help Lauren to talk it out? I'm sorry you're hurting, Susan

That's the strangest thing ever, Laura! ! ! I totally understand why you're upset. Shouldn't be so hard to get a little help for Ethan!! Eager to hear how this turns out.

Hi Toni! Emily hasn't had that happen.....her periods have generally been fairly short and regular. So, I asked an Uno Mas mom who is a nurse and who has worked in a GYN office. Here is her reply to me:
"Could be lots of things. If she sees a doctor - he would most likely do two lab tests - and FSH and a TSH. It could be caused by a hormone imbalance or possibly even hypothyroidism since a lot of kids with DS have thryroid trouble (Ashleigh has been on synthroid for years). Also, she might even have an ovarian cyst or maybe a polyp or something like that - any of those things could cause irregualr bleeding like that. If that's the first time it's happened - I wouldn't call a doctor right away - BUT if it happens again - then I would definitely take her to get checked out. Alot of times - a cyst or even hormones - those things just kinda work out on their own. Hope that helps!!"

Great update! Hoping she is feeling better today. Wonderful news about the iPad! ! ! At Emily's last IEP meeting at her new school, her ST said an iPad would be perfect for her. They said they would begin working with her on it and we could work on getting her one of her own. I'll add that to my list of things to buy! ! !
