Do you have a Wii? There are loads of great games for the Wii that are fun individually or with others. We love the Guitar Hero - Legends of Rock. There are also lots of tablet PCs that are somewhere between the Touch and the iPad in size and price - not by Apple. I like the 7 inch ones, personally, but I hesitate as you do, not wanting to get the "wrong" one. It is frustrating. My husband is better at picking that sort of thing than I am. If you'd like, I could ask him what he's been looking at these days and put some links on here, but I don't know if you'd want to have to wade through that any more than I would.

I'm so impressed with Brook going to school for a full day at kindy at only 5 and doing so well - Eagle of the Month! WTG, Brook! It's long day for such a little girl - I have always been of the opinion that kindergarten should be half days because they're little kids who need to have plenty of unstructured play at home. I put Stevie in only half days because I knew that however well she started out, she'd get tired of all day at school and start to act up and be unhappy and unproductive. But if you think that Brook can manage, I'd trust your judgment on it. You know best what that little dynamo is capable of, and she is always surprising me. I think an afternoon aid would be a good idea - 1:1 even for that tough last bit. You might want to add a trip to the resource room for right after lunch so that she has something fun to look forward to before getting back to work in the classroom. I know you'll come up with something that will work - you're a smart and capable woman

The zippered ones do look elderly - lol You could maybe sew one - or put a zipper in a tie robe...

Just tell her she has to be a statue. Ask her what sort of statue she's going to be. Get a description in detail if you can, just remind her that statues don't move - ever - so when she's done, she'll have to be Kathleen again

Meds are very often the answer. I am glad to read this good report, Chris, about Sarah. What a relief that must have been

Ok. Maybe it's too personal even to share with older sis... Can't blame her really.

I was pigeon-toed when I was little. I wore special shoes with soles that rolled my feet outward - that part was cool to 5-year-old me, but not cool was that they only had about 3 different styles, none of them cute or cool =( Still, two or three years of that, and I was fixed for life =)
Flat-footedness comes, almost always, from poor muscle strength in the arch and will not be cured by any orthotic, but rather by foot exercises - like what you get in ballet class (hint, hint - I do want to see that cutie pie, Kaelyn in a ballet costume and on stage), or by walking around barefoot on tippy toes (also cute for pics, btw)

Ditto - especially the (((hugs))). I wish we could all get around you physically and give you comfort and support. I want for you to feel the strength of our arms holding you up during this seemingly endless rough patch. Please know that peace is being prayed over you, that understanding is being pled for you at the throne of God.
Lauren is lucky to have such a mom who aches to understand her - who knows that she must be suffering something that confuses her and messes with her security - who yearns to 'kiss it and make it better'
Do all you can to stay healthy yourself - keep your strength up and be alert so that when there is a hint of what's really going on, you'll catch it. So get plenty of rest, eat healthy food (especially hard with the upcoming holiday treats), and exercise whenever you get the chance - and plenty of hugs (real ones, in addition to the cyber ones we send) - find them every day, they're great for stress.
