Way to go on your weight loss! Doesn't it feel great? Even a little loss can make me feel so much better.
I too have found that exercise is the key. If I stop, I can tell a huge difference. I used my pedometer too. I was shocked to find that regardless of the fact that I rarely sit down all day, I wasn't very close to 10,000 steps. I have to walk two miles to get there.
Keep up the great work!

Sue,
Thanks! I really hope we can all keep this weight off and not have to worry about it again. I'm getting tired of this up and down routine!
See ya,

Hey everyone!
Sounds like we're doing some hard work to keep this weight off!
I've gone back to Weight Watchers now that I've reached my goal weight again. I'm a lifetime member, so it's nice to be back. I had to shed 25 pounds before I got back down to goal weight, but NEVER again if I have anything to do with it.
I'm still doing Slim in 6 for my exercise program and Walk Away the Pounds on my "off" days. But I'm doing something everyday. Makes a huge difference for me.
Take care. Keep working! You can do it!

Thanks Alice! I appreciate your support.
Dieting is hard work! And working out to stay slimmer is the hardest work of all in my opinion! I never worked so hard as I have this summer to lose this weight. But I really feel great and think it has been worth it.
Good luck to all.

Hey everyone! I wanted to let you know that I've been doing Slim in 6, which is part of beacdbody.com and I've lost 17 pounds and 14 inches! It's been hard work! They don't sugar coat it (bad choice of words!) and make it sound like there's nothing to it. It takes time and commitment. But it works! And I feel great! I must say I'm in better shape than I've been in a long time. Here's my beachbody website: www.mybeachbody.com/amaysnva You can even see my before and after photos and has lots of info. There is a great message board with lots of support. If you're into exercise and healthy eating, it's a great program. See ya, Robin M

I have the Walk Away the Pounds DVDs. They are good. But they got old for me after about a month. I like to trade off with them and my Pilates tapes. But I can't do one thing all the time. Boring!
I went to the beachbody.com website and looked into it. It seems really geared toward exercise. Which I like. But I'd love someone's opinion who has been there.
See ya

Has anyone heard or tried the Slim in 6 program? I saw it advertised and had never heard of it.
The diet sounds typical...lots of veggies, low fat, low calorie.
But the exercise is supposed to be killer.
Love some input.

Fevers?

Neither one of my kids ever runs a fever. Maggie only did when she was in heart failure and had pulmonary hypertension!
Matthew has when he had the flu. But that was years ago.
I have a hard time convincing docs that my kids are as sick as they are without running a temp. It's frustrating.

MRI's

Thanks!
Bob, I'm not sure we've had any flying bullets around here. Although you never know about the deer hunters out back! LOL
Thanks for the info. Maggie WON'T take any medicine by mouth...they'll get it back! So I expect they'll have to gas her to get the IV and stuff going. That's what they do when she has her tubes put in.
Boy, this is so much fun! I feel bad for our babies.
Take care, Robin - Maggie's mom

Hey!
Do any of you all have experience with MRI's? Maggie's going to have one May15th for her auditory nerves.
I'd love any info you all have to share.
Thanks! Robin - Maggie's mom

No glasses here. Maggie just has hearing aids! Now imagine trying to keep track of those which are skin tone and about the size of a quarter! I can't tell you the number of times she's thrown them away, eaten ear molds, tossed them out of the car, or her favorite...ditching them at Walmart! Oh the joys of parenthood! I pray we don't have to get glasses. I can only imagine trying to keep up with both at the same time. Take care. Robin M - Maggie's mom

You go girl!
I can't tell you the number of times we've had to push and push to get things going. (Well I could, but it would take days!)
Unfortunately, doctors don't know everything. As one audiologist told me...medicine is more of an "Art" than a science sometimes. Nothing is concrete.
I totally agree with Tammy about the fluid and hearing loss. Maggie had a 30 dbh hearing loss due to fluid...on top of her actual sensory neural hearing loss. Which basically mean she could hear sounds, but not speech.
AND...the doctors always said "I can't see any fluid" and she didn't have ear infections...but it was there. I hope that's all your little guy has. That's an easy fix.
Take care. Keep us posted. Robin - Maggie's mom

Hello,
Congratulations on that new baby! I haven't been around in a while, but I have lots of experience with hearing problems.
Maggie, our 5 year old, with DS, has a moderate loss in her right ear and a profound loss in her left ear. She wears a hearing aid in her right ear and responds to sounds very well. We're still trying to find out how well she hears speech sounds.
I would suggest an ABR be done by a pediatric audiologist as soon as possible. If you have a medical college close by, they usually have some of the best audiologists. Lousiana is known for having several well known audiologists. I believe that's where you're from. The sooner you catch a hearing loss and get aided, the better!
It took two ABR's to find out whether Maggie could hear anything. She's had two sets of tubes, several hearing aids and we just did another ABR because they have now diagnosed her with auditory neuropathy. Meaning her "wiring" for her hearing doesn't always work the way it's supposed to. Great huh?
Anyway, it took Maggie several months before she actually heard and turned to loud sounds. After she got her hearing aids, at 4 months of age, she responded much better.
I agree with an earlier writer who said all children, as well as adults, with DS should have their hearing tested every 6 to 12 months. You'd be surprised the things that get diagnosed when it's just a hearing problem.
Hope everything turns out great! If you have any questions, just post up.

Hello, me again! Our kids must have been separated in heaven they seem to have the same issues! Maggie did wonderfully eating till the age of 11 months. Unfortunately, our OT decided to shove a Cheerio in her mouth and Maggie choked on it. No fun! Since that time, we have yet to be able to get anything crunchy, or hard in texture near the child. Her sensory issues got so bad that she didn't even want her baby food for a while! Now, at age 5, she has seen many, many speech and feeding therapists. Some were helpful, some were not. I too recommend Sara Rosenfeld-Johnson's website, tapes, and if you can get to her, her therapies! Laurasnowbird on the site has actually taken her son to this group and it did wonders so I understand. Sara R-J was just at our DS Associations conference, but she didn't do any assessments. I would have paid just about anything to get her advice! Anyway, she has great programs and there are therapists who may be in your area who have been trained by her. It would be worth checking in to. Maggie just started eating bread, and chewing soft foods on her own. She has eaten purred foods and creamy soups for the past few years. Trust me, each step has been monumental! I hope that everything works well for you. Start an oral motor program now and find a GOOD feeding therapist! Good luck! Robin - Maggie's mom

Organic pear juice works for Maggie. We also add pear "sauce" to her oatmeal and dinner at times. She hasn't had a problem since we started all that.
Good luck! Robin - Maggie's mom
