wow....lots to think of.....I would be afraid to let the place slip by and wait for the new home to be built....is this a build that is already being planned ? Or just a hope of a build ? I have warmed to the idea of a group home in general.....( for erin's future)....but....as with everything....it has to be the perfect fit for all.....some may be fabulous, and some may be fabulos for some one else...... Imagine if she found Johnny Depps # 2 fan was also a house-mate !?!? Keep the updates coming & know that we are all rooting for you !

start right off the bat by telling them you are nervous !! That calms every one down ! Just be genuine, honest, YOU !! and you will be fine !! Make yourself a brief outline with bullet points....don't read to them.....but use the outline and bullet points to keep yourself on track and this way you won't forget anything ! Good luck.....I think it is a great opportunity....but....don't feel too pressured or stressed....if you do forget something or wish you elaborated on something else.....this "education" will be a much evolving process. All the families will be seeing you & Adi weekly....so.....there are plenty of opportunities for more & more goodwill !

Yup...Erin is right there with Ethan & Russell...LOVES LOVES LOVES the fireworks....and honestly....she likes the noise more than the colors and displays.....every time they BOOMED....she clapped. laughed and copied them....meanwhile....all the littel kids with us were scared and crying ! LOL....funny to see how times change. When she was little she would endure the fireworks....but rocked herself like crazy to soothe herself. she never had a meltdown....just was in super soothing mode !

Yes...Erin has a lot of similarities to Brook....if any child cries...Erin gets VERY upset. I, too had to speak about another child in her class who literally cried for 5 out of the 6 hours he was in school....heartbreaking !! but I digress...... She is outgrowing it as she gets older ( and meds help) .....NOT that I am saying meds for Brook....but for US.....they were needed.......
Erin would bang her head, pull her hair, scrtach herself if another child cried. ( Oh God....and you should have seen what a doorbell did to her !!! ) All scary and sad to see.....but....remember these behaviors are her communication. What she can't express verbally she expresses physically. I had to remove her from the area, take her to quiet place and rub her arms and hands until she calmed. It got to the point where I could calm her without removing her....and she would thrust her arms and hands at me to rub them as she knew it was going to soothe her. Now if something happens, I can usually soothe her verbally and not need to do anything phyusical, and she still does get sad when someone else is sad......I've got to post a video of her...she'll rub her eyes and say " so, so sad,,,,,very very sad"....it is actually quite cute !! I think it sounds as though you are handling it well...find something ( hand rubs, back rubs, hair rubs) to calm her and then she maybe able to transition to self soothing with the same technique. Let us know !

I just heard the news about a wonderful couple in Florida who openend their hearts and home to 16 kids with Special needs and someone murdered the parents over the weekend. So senesless, so devestating.....why, why ? what will happen to all these precious children that they took in when no one else would ? www.abcnews.go.com/TheLaw/story?id=8067376&page=1I am so saddened to hear this.

well, no surprise...I cried for the full length of this movie...I knew I would.....and I am not exageratting, from the moment I sat, until they turned the lights on, I didn't stop....there were a couple spots that I was afraid I was going to sob right out loud !! I think the entire audience was the same way. It was great acting....I think they all did a fabvulous job. For those that loved the book....it didn't stay fully true to it.....big spoiler.....don't read if you don't want to know.....but the movie has a different ending than the book ! I for one, didn't like the book ending....but expected it and wasn't sure I liked the movie ending..... Some things were different....son wasn't nearly as dysfunctional as he was in the book....court and lawyers played much less a part than they did in book. No Guradian Ad Litem and she was pretty important in the book. Most of the movie was flashbacks and the court stuff was minimal. Anyone else see it ? The theatre was packed....I was surprised...a Wed. night....and packed....lots of teens...I didn't expect that ! Anyone else see it ?
