First, I would like to ask for prayer for a girl I went to school with. She is a mother of 8, a stay at home mom and home schools her children. Her youngest child has DS. Her husband just past away this week, losing his battle with cancer. I can't even imagine what she must be going through right now. Second, A friends of ours is down at Rileys Childrens Hospital having a biopsy done on mass on her 15 y .o. son's arm. I spoke to the father last night and the doctors believe that he has one of two types of cancer. Please pray for these two families. I can't imagine the grief and stress either of these families must be under. Connie

Pauline, Look up at the very top. Under where it welcomes you and tell's you how many messages you have there are several links. One says Home, Help, Search, members, admin, pro. file, logout. Click on Profile. At the top of the tan box it will say members bio. On that same line in blue it says "modify profile" click it and change what needs to be changed. Hope that helps. If, not let me know and I will see what else I can do. Connie

Food for thought guys!!! Ok, we do not use a stroller with Collin. But, if we are going to a festival or fair or an amuzement park we will take a wagon for him and Lauren to use if they want. Heck, even my 8 and 10 y.o. have been known to hitch a ride. While I will admit Collin does fatigue quicker than most he is also a manipulator. For example...if we are taking a walk through the park he will usually 3/4 of the way through ask to be picked and whine about it (he really works my DH with this -- I'm the toughy). But if we are in eye sight of the play ground and I point it out and tell him to go play you should see those little legs that where just tired 30 seconds ago fly!!! Ok so who's working who?!?!? I question if he is really tired or just bored and not interested in what we are doing? While in the grocery store, not all the time but usually I do put him and Lauren in a cart just because our store has those race car carts (which I HATE) and the kids love them!!!
I use the cart when I've not been to the grocery store in 2 weeks and have MAJOR food shopping to do!! But, when I just need a few items I make them (him) walk with me an carry the food. This way he builds stamina and muscle strength...a gallon of orange juice is heavy or HEBBY as he says!! Now I'm rambling and forgot my point so I will stop now!! Connie

Allisa, We had a flood here in 2001. We received over 11 inches in a 12 hour period so I really sympathize with you. We will keep praying you stay HIGH and DRY!!! Well if your exDH is in an apartment way up on a hill....how the heck is he going to get down if the drive way is flooded? Swim? or were people actually going to rescue him? I think they really need to talk to you FIRST before the go and do that.....LOL Hugs, Connie

Kelly, WTG Joshua!!! I can remember the first time Collin sat...it was such a big moment and so exciting for all. Would I discourage him from sitting? NO!!! By him sitting he is going to be building trunk strength which will enable him to sit without propping. Collin propped when he first sat unassisted...matter of fact all my children propped!!
A couple of the things I did because I questioned propping too (I was overly sensitive with everything I did with Collin...wanted to do everything perfect with him) in the beginning was ...
1st get a kidney shaped laundry basket and let him sit in it. This will allow him to sit with some support but without propping on his legs or the floor he will use the sides of the basket instead.
2nd sit a box or large toy between his legs something higher for him to prop against.
3rd I tried (but always did not succed) to move his legs in closer together when he would sit to reinforce the feeling of sitting with his legs together. 4th try the boppy pillow for sitting support. Put his legs somewhat together put this around him. It should help support him and give him something to prop on!! Just a few suggestion that I remember trying. Isn't it just so exciting!!! Connie

Martienne, LOL...you are going to fit in her just fine!!!! We all appreciate Jeff's view point but just like any other man we have to give him a hard time!!! You said you were waiting for blood tests. Now I don't know a lot about Mosaic DS but if I am thinking right (which I might not be) You can have a negative blood test and still have Mosaic DS. The extra cells may show up some place else for example the skin, lungs, brain ect... depending on when/where the triplication occured. So you may want to ask your doctor about further more extensive testing. Connie Connie

Martiene,
Collin was diagnosed with trisomy 21 shortly after birth. He displayed a lot of the typical characteristics. Simien crease in his palms, flat face, low set ears, etc....but there were and still are times when people look at him and wonder what is different about him because his features at times aren't that promenient but since his speech is delay they know something is different. Now, my mother who babysits, had a little girl who was diagnosed at about 12 to 18 months old with mosaic DS. I believe if I remember right there were about 7-12 % of her cells that carried the extra 21st chromosome. The only reason she was diagnosed was because of an eating disorder and epilepsy. If a parent of a typical child would look at her they would not see any of the DS characteristics but I could notice some features at times just because I think I was more in tune with them from having Collin. Keep us posted and if you find you need a home....Welcome!! Connie
