Dwight wasn't much older than me. A year in fact. That should give you an idea of when I was born. I am glad I wasn't put in a place to live. My parent's decided to walk down another path instead. I know that not everyone can do that. I need to watch the video but, my computer signal is low so I don't know how long I would be able to watch it...........Debbie

I agree with Emily on being independent. It can be hard, not that I have ever been as independent as her though. Being thirteen is a very different phase. Thirteen is the beginning of the teenage years toward adulthood. All of sudden you think differently and want to distance yourself from your parents. ;D You don't have be thirteen to go through that phase though.........Debbie

Jackie,
Are you planning to move? I read that you said your house deal went sour and you said you may have to stay here longer. I was wondering. If I am being nosy just say so..........Debbie

Our group started out small and has grown. In the beginning, I don't believe we had a Buddy Walk but I may be wrong since I did not know about our group then. I stumbled onto their website one day while surfing the Internet. Later Jackie invited or told me about their meeting's and I went. I believe the Buddy Walk is very instrumental in educating people about Down syndrome. Some people would not know even the basic information without stumbling across the Buddy Walk where I live. The media comes and interviews some parents, volunteers and adult's with Down syndrome. Our money is divided. We dnoate some of it the NDSS, fundraiser such as the Buddy Walk, education such as Parent Packet's for those that come in to Doctor's offices to their appointments. We also use the money for a lending library of collection of books about Down syndrome and for the parents. We also use the money for those in need in our group who are sick or have a child who is really sick. We have our business meetings as well to decide on how the money is to be used...............Debbie

Years ago my Mother sent in some pictures of me for the video. The picked one which I didn't like. I was grinning. My Aunt had taken it while I was working. I had on a denium cap on and t-shirt. I was twenty. It was a very old picture of me. They liked it and I received a letter. We bought the video and I have watched it several times. It had Tracie Ullman and Chris Burke at the end of it doing a comedy act. I still can't believe I was on that big picture thing in New York City. ;D....Debbie

I guess most of us, or other people, have alot of pictures on their computer but not a billfold anymore. And we don't give out our e-mail addresses to those we don't know. It is a shame to be honest. I shouldn't say since I don't carry picture's either in my billfold. A picture of your child when they were young is a good idea though. Now I have a different problem, no one knows I have Down syndrome except for those in my Down syndrome group here. So how would I go about it when I see a parent with a child who has Down syndrome? Hmm, I know. That parent may not believe me...........Debbie ;D

I know you are wanting a parent to respond Jackie, I hope you don't mind me answering. Do you have a current picture of Emily with you in your purse? If you do, consider this for a suggestion. "Oh, how I remember those years" or "Watching your beautiful girl or boy really takes me back to my girl when she was at the age" then show her your picture of Emily or simply say,"By the way, I have a picture of her. Would you be interested in looking at it?" You have been there and you know the journey. You would be a great asset to this parent as she would be interested in your experiences. And of course introduce her to Unomas........Debbie

Why not? This was something to be shared by all. It is a big moment and people did want to not only meet her but her family too. Trig will not remember but his family will. What I feel for them is the scrunity of the media...........Debbie

I loved it! He is so cute. And I thought that Piper was so motherly in a sister way. I thought that Cindy was so classy looking (Did you see her speech? It was good too.) and that Sarah was not afraid to speak her mind. She acted very comfortable in her speech. I also saw her as a skillful orator and politician in the making..............Debbie

I don't care at all for alcoholic drinks. I choose to not drink especially now that I take medicines. Before though, when I was much younger, I didn't drink because I didn't like the taste. I have not met very many who have Down syndrome and drink. I think it does come down to personal choice. Sometimes it can be tempting to drink too much. I think it is good teach the young adults what can happen when you drink too much. There is more to it than just trying something they may see in a movie...........Debbie
