::)I cannot believe that today was Alison's last day of kindergarten!!! She's had an amazing year with one of the best teachers I've ever met. ;D ;D ;D I can only pray that her first grade teacher is nearly as good. One nice thing is that she'll have the same aide next year who was wonderful with Alison - didn't fall for Alison's "I can't" line when ever she had to do something new. She really worked well to get the best out of Alison! We're also getting ready for Alison first ever trip to Disney World! ;DI can't wait to see her reaction when she realizes where she is - I haven't told her where we're going, just that she's going to take a plane ride on Thursday! She keeps tellingme "No thank you, no plane, I go in Mommy's brown car!" No way on earth I am driving 24 hrs to Orlando! It'll also be like my first trip there. The last time I was at Disney was in 1983 after graduating from college! I hear it's changed a little bit since then! ;D And, yes, Bob, I'm sure you think of this trip as some sort of child abuse!!! Catch ya all when we get back from visiting with the Mouse! Barb

So, anybody else out there early this am to grab up the latest Janet Evanovich?
I can't wait to get into this. I'm always laughing out loud at Stephanie Plum's antics. So badly, that my DH tells me to go into another room!!!

Jackie,
I couldn't agree with you more.
Alison has been using computers since she was 2 yrs old both at school and at home. She is now able to find the games she likes to play, can get to pbskids.com for those games by herself, and get into the painting part of some program. Me, on the other hand, I'm constantly having to ask Sarah or Caitlin how to do anything more than the internet!
Alison's teachers this year have all commented on her computer skills. Especially her OT because of some of the fine motor skills involved. "Typical" kids are taught so much on computer skills, it makes no sense that so many schools don't use it as both a teaching tool and a valuable skill to teach our kids!
I'm always so impressed when you tell us about Emily's computer skills, think she'd like to take a trip out here to tutor me sometime? LOL

BTW.... Emily has great taste in men!!! Johnny Depp is definitely yummy!!!!

Allisa - Handle with Care is I believe Jodi Piccoult's latest book. It really is very similar to this case.
Another thing that struck me is how will this child feel about herself and her parents when she's older and learns about this lawsuit? Will she feel as though her parents view her as a horrible mistake - something they never wanted?
I agree with ya Steff - let the court find this child parents who really truely want her and will cherish her life!

How cool! Wish I had found these earlier - we leave Thursday morning for Disney! I'll have to see if I can get them shipped next day!

I recently read the book "Handle with Care" by Jodi Picoult. It deals with a very similar situation. I know Jackie has also read this book. It involves a child with a different DX - brittle bone disease - but the parents also sued for wrongful birth. It was a very emotional read for me.
I don't know what the answer is to this one, I only know that I knew before Alison was born that she had DS, never considered terminating, and have never regretted or questioned that decision.
It is such a personal and controversial topic. Hopefully this won't turn into hornet's nest!

Glad to see that you were able to meet up with each other!
How I wish I was in Boston - feeling very homesick lately! Weird since I've been out of the area for 20 years!

Wow.... Can Brook come and help Alison with writing her name?!?!? Alison does ok with it, but is really more interested in cursive writing. She'll start a school worksheet out printing and it evolves ino her version of cursive! Tells me "I'm writing like big girls". At school, they do a kind of dot-to-dot for her to follow on words she is unfamiliar with. Works pretty well until she decides to "write" her answers.
Great job Brook with no "e"!!!

Gee, thanks you guys!!! I never even thought of the possibility of my big old butt on YouTube!!! I did a quick look on there and don't see anything but geeshhh, now I'm really embar"ass"ed!
Saw a few of the parents from that party at another kiddo's b-day party yesterday..... I was thoroughly ragged on!!! Kept telling me I was going to look really silly going through the bounce house slides and mazes after Alison. Well, guess who had the last laugh - ME!!! Alison was the only one who willing came to the table area for pizza and cake - the others were pulling their kids out! Turn around fair play I guess.
Oh, BTW, I've decided to keep her for now but I'll certainly keep you guys in mind the next time! And Pat is definitely in the lead for that phone call - insane gal is willing to take Sarah too!!! Anybody who is willing to take a 12 yr along with Alison.... well, what can I say?
