Thanks for the update, and I hope the surgery goes well. I will keep you Yosh in our prayers until he has had his surgery. Hang in there, it must be so terrifying. We went through something similar when Adam was 2, they removed 6 lymph nodes in his neck and thought he had lymphoma. Turned out negative but I will never forget that feeling of helplessness. You can vent to us anytime you feel the need. We are all here for you. Hugs going your way to.

Croup

Adam 6 also had and still has croup attacks. They can be very scary. But I've been told by my doctor that althought it looks and sound very scary that it is not dangerous. Unless of course it happens when he has pneumonia at the same time, which he did a few times. Adam had 14 aspirational pneumonia by the time he was 2. My second oldest son 22 (not DS) also had croup. We took lots of trips to the bathroom for steam, and the doctors even suggested that if it was cold outside to bring him outside. Well I tried that once instead of the steam, and guess what it work a lot faster. Hope this helps you.

Adam had 14 pneumonia by the time he was 2 years old. Some were viral but most wee aspirational pneumonia due to his poor coordiantion with swallowing. He is now 6 and is doing fine.

We knew by 3D ultra sound done at 5 months into my pregancy as I was in full labor at the time. Adam was born at 35 weeks. They did the blood work when he was born and they told us what we already knew that he was Down syndrome, but they were checking for Mosaic or trisomy 13 I think. But the monent Adam was born we could tell, he had the line in the palm of his hands and was so floppy it was scary to hold him for fear of breaking something. I don't know how it can be missed at birth unless they have no straight line in the palm of their hand and very good muscle tone.

Adam had a lot of probelms with reflux too. It did get better with age, but even now if he bends tight down frontward after a meal he will reflux. He was also on prepulsid for 3 years and he takes nothing now. He was born with a thacheal stenosis so it didn't help things.

Adam now 6 has been wearing glasses since he was 18 mths old. I sure remember the troubles we had. I used to buy the cute looking Disney or Elmo amd such, now we get the flexable ones. I can't remember the name for them but they come in very pretty frames and are strechable to noe ends. He hasn't broken a pair since we switched 2 years ago. Hope this helps you.

Adam 6 has had glases since he was 16mths old. But I know lots of DS children who don't need them. You are right, they should invent some kind of glue on glasses for our kids. Heehee!

We did have quite a problem with Adam now 8 choking and actually aspirating while feeding. He ws born with a thracheal stenosis. He never had a feeding tube but he was on purees until he was 5. I think a lot of Down syndrome kids have problems with new textures. I know Adam does. I think he may have been ready for eating regular foods before 5 but scary mom was terrified to try anything until I caught him eating a Dorito chip. Now he eats anything even meats, but we still have to be careful on how much he puts in his mouth. It will come don't worry. The way i look at it, Adam ate healthier then we did, as I made all his puree foods, so he actually got vegetables and meats at every meal.

Adam started wearing glasses at 18 months. It took forever for him to get used to them. We also tried ecrything we could think of. As long as we sat right next to him it was fine, but otherwise we would either find broken glasses or not find them at all. ;D He is now 8 and is doing better, he doesn't like wearing them outside, but then here in Northern Canada they would probably freeze to his nose. ;D Patience is the only advice I can give you. We now get the glasses that you can twist and won't break, (can't remember what they are called) The only other advice is hotglue them to his eyebrows. ;D ;D ;D Just joking. Hope it works out.

I have to say that Adam 8 does have some obssessive behaviors. He wil only sit in a certain chair to eat, now hsi new one is blowing rasberry kisses. Seems like once we get rid of one he gets another one. ;D All in all I don't know if this is true at all but I was told that children with Down syndrome have some obssessive behaviors like Autistic children have.
