A.,
So did you grow up with any of those yummy traditional Polish holiday foods? Pierogi, Kruschicki, a yummy mushroom-barley soup that my father-in-law will only make for Vigelia (sp?) - a meatless meal on Christmas Eve. And then there are the sausages - some good, some not so good!!!
My grandmother also came from a very large family but from Ireland. She was the 17th of 21 children who survivied to adulthood!!! We had a family reunion about 20 yrs ago when 4 of her sisters came to the US for a visit and there were over 400 people!!!

Happy Hannukah to all celebrating!!!
My husband's family is Polish (3 of his grandparents emigrated from Poland) and at part of the traditional foods at Easter include a jelly donut - can't remember the exact name but sounds like "punchkey".

Same here, the colder it gets, the more chapped Alison's cheeks get! I've had some success with Eucerin cream (not the ointment). Just started using it 3 days ago, but I can already see a big difference. I've been putting it on several times a day, just after washing her face while it is still a little damp and really slather the stuff on before going outdoors. Our ped also recommended using soap only as needed, to just use warm (not too warm though) water to wash her face with.

Oh man, Jeannette, I can SOOOO relate to the horrible blood draw experience!!! Took Alison today to get some thyroid levels drawn. To say it was a nightmare is just about the understatement of the year!!! First we went to a "satellite clinic" of the Childrens Hosp here, 2 people tried twice to get the blood.... no success, just a VERY pissed off Alison!!! So I decided, well while I'm here I may as well get the blood work that I needed done over with... the same people missed me!!! So, run home to give Alison lunch and then head into Buffalo to the main Childrens Hosp - not far, just a pain in the kiester to park there. After waiting almost an hour!!!! 2 more people miss her!!! At this point, I asked them to page an old bud of ours - a nurse we met who is on the picc line team there - she has been the ONLY person to get an IV started or get a good blood draw on Alison. Well, next thing I know the phlebotomy supervisor is in telling me that they have a policy that they can't call nursing until 5 people miss a draw!!!! Yup, ya guessed it - Barb went a little bit postal at that point!!!! To make an obviously LOOOONNNNNGGGG story short, after DEMANDING to speak to the nursing supervisor, we finally got the nurse from the picc line team down to do the draw.... she had absolutely no problem getting her!!! I realize that to a large degree, being able to draw blood is as much a skill as it is a talent, WHY do they insist on torturing little kids if they miss the first time??!!?? why not just call in the big guns so to speak and make for a much easier experience for all concerned? And then people wonder why kids start to freak out the minute they see a needle? Ok, sorry to take over your vent Jeanette, but man do I feel your pain today!!! Hope we both have MUCH better tomorrows!!! Barb

Ok, this is not exactly a cleaning question but here goes... Anybody got some good ways to get rid of ants that isn't one of the harsh chemical sprays??? Unfortunately I've been battling the tiniest little red ants all summer - we call them "sweet ants" here. I'll get rid of them for a few days and the next thing I know they pop up somewhere else in the kitchen. I know that part of the problem is my DH is a slob and for some reason just does not grasp the concept of cleaning up the kitchen counters and floors after meals. I work 4 nights a week with him in charge of dinner clean up. So beyond trading DH in for one who knows how to clean up after himself ( and I highly doubt there are any!!!) any ideas out there? Thanks, Barb and the soon to be deceased ants!!! ;D
