Hi, Barb & Alison here in New York - buffalo/Niagara Falls area. Our income was too high for SSI & Medicaid. One caseworker actually suggested that I quite work just so that we would get them for Alison. When asked, she said no one else would be eligible though, just Alison . That would leave 4 of us with no insurance since I carry the family policy as it is just too darned expensive with my husband being self employed. . Fortunately she did qualify for another program here that is picking up all of her copays on our insurance. and Early Intervention covers all of the therapies after our ins. stops paying. Well, that's our little story Barb BTW: I'm feeling real proud of myself as I just now figured out how to add all those little smiley things!!!!! I am SO pathetic!!! LOL

Claire,
Thanks for posting the link to your hometown! Very interesting.
My DH absolutely LOVES Tim Horton ( both the hockey player and the donuts!!!) and happened to walk in while I was looking at the site. Now he's been making roadtrip noises!!! Wants to know if the Tim Horton Museum is for real!?!?! We also couldn't get over the fact that you all got the donut shop way after they were here in Buffalo!!! They are the most popular donuts in the area!!! ( I personally am a Krispy Kreme kind of gal!!!) So who knows, maybe we'll be making a very LOOOONNNNNNNGGGGG roadtrip your way!

I just picked up a copy of this last week at Barnes & Noble. Made such a fool of myself.... standing in the aisle bawling as I read a couple of the stories....... How could I NOT buy it after leaving tear-stains on several pages!!! LOL
The stories I have read have brought tears, laughs, you name it. It is definitely a nice addition to my little library!

by Gregory Maguire
This book was actually written about 10 years ago and I had read it then. I recently reread it and have to say I enjoyed it even more the second time around!!!
It is about the Wicked Witch of the West from the Wizard of Oz. It tells her story from birth until Dorothy melts her. It gives a whole different slant on the whole Oz story and made me actually like and feel sorry for the witch!
There's a good bit of social commentary handle in unusual ways and some very wry humor.
The author also recently publish another novel.... Son of a Witch.....that I will be starting as soon I as I get off the computer!

Just finished reading this last night..... or should I say this morning about 2 am!! I really enjoyed it and had a hard time putting it down. Like Jackie said it isn't so much a book about DS although the character with DS is portrayed very well as it is family secrets and deception. My sister is also reading it and hasn't had quite the same reaction as I have had to the stories in it. I guess I've been more intrigued with the DS thread than anything else. Definitely worth a look though. Barb

Ok, I like the idea of the waterpark or even SouthPark w/its wave pool on Saturday. We won't get in until about 11am on Saturday ( plan to hit the road between 7 - 7:30am and heaven help the person who says where's the next bathroom!!!) but can easily meet up with everyone where ever. Ladies night on Saturday sure sounds good for me, especially if some will be heading out on Sunday. For us, the amusement park is a must do (Caitlin & Sarah will have major league hissie fits if I don't do that at somepoint) and it really doesn't matter when, my biggest problem is going to be Alison and sleep - go during the day, she gets no nap..... go at night, she gets a nap but then is up really late ( she normally goes to bed at 8pm.) Just a thought here..... if Kennywood is still like it was 15 yrs ago, I remember that the later in the day it got. the more obnoxious teens/young adults were roaming. You know the type who go around in groups and have some of the foulest mouths I've ever heard!!! Don't know about you guys but I can definitely do without that! We'll be staying in PGH Sunday night and heading out sometime Monday..... I'm supposed to work at 5:30pm but I'm hoping to switch and have Monday off and work a different evening that week ( also known as Friday night! YUK!) Question for you there SuziF....... any chance there's a Red River BBQ near where we will be staying? When we lived down there in Wexford there was one just down the hill and we loved their food!!!! I know there was one in Monroeville sort of near that mall but don't remember if there was one over by Century III. DH has already requested that I stop at one to get some of there Dare Devil Sauce to bring home!!! Barb

So, what time do people think would be good to meet up at Sandcastle on Saturday am??? Reason I ask is this....... I am driving in from Buffalo Saturday am and need to know if I should plan on going to the hotel or go straight to Sandcastle. I would think we would want to get to Sandcastle a good half hour to an hour before they open so that we can get our tickets and be amongst the first into the park so we can stake out some prime shaded real estate as a kind of home base.
Barb...... who is counting down the hours till we see you all!

Are you aware of any construction on 79 coming down from Erie??? Seems like everytime we make the trip down there, some section or another is under construction!

I probably won't be much help here as plans will definitely depend upon whether DH joins us or not. IF he does, I figure he can take the older girls to Sandcastle and Kennywood if it is decided to go in the evening. Alison just doesn't tolerate the heat well and forget about keeping her up much beyond 8:30pm!!! Can you say demonic possession cannot be ruled out the next day!!! And all that depends on if we are able to stay until Monday....
If he doesn't come, I will really be stuck between a rock and a hard place!!! Will have to try to juggle everybody's schedule!
