Ok, now I'm really confused and befuddled.......
Alison is 3 and most definitely well under 46" tall........ so I guess what I really need is junior tickets for both parks for her.......

Sorry to be soooo late in responding to this!!! We are without a working computer.....storms on Thurday fried a whole lot of our electrical in the house. Finally had a chance to get here to the library. Anyway........
I'll need 4 combo passes...... if I read correctly, I'm better off getting the regular combo pass for Alison, especially if she does end up riding anything at Kennywood, right???
We can't wait to meet up with everyone.

OK guys, I checked into when the baseball all-star game is going to be.......
It is on July 20th..... which is the Thursday after we'll be getting together.
I think that if we're going to do this in PGH we best decide exactly where we want to stay and fast as I'm sure rooms will be at a premium!!!
So, lets try to make up our mind quickly!!!

Ok, the rates for both the Holidome and the Monroeville hotel are for a room w/ 2 double beds. I only asked about those rooms because I assumed (yeah, I know what happens when you assume!!! ) that is what pretty much everybody would need!

CBean & Jessie, I too would much prefer the Ritz however PGH is not quite that civilized!!! We have stayed at the William Penn in downtown PGH and it was gorgeous!!! But that was a special occasion ( 10th anniversary ) and now we couldn't afford a glass of water there!!! You guys will just have to go slumming with the rest of us!!!

OK, hope I'm not stepping on our fearless leader Donnita's toes here but I looked at the various Pittsburgh area Holiday Inns. Having lived in the Pittsburgh area for 3 years before moving to this god forsaken tundra also known as Buffalo ( Cathy, lay off of the whooooshing would ya PLEASE!!! ) figured I could easily figure out the closest one. I would post links to these places but for some reason ( could it be old age, senility, or just a plain old brain fart??? ) I can't get it to work!!! If you go to the Holiday Inns website and do a search for West Mifflin, PA you'll get a list of area hotels. The one that is the closest to Kennywood and Sandcastle is a Holiday Inn Express ( NO pool!!! ) right in West Mifflin The other choice that is close by is the Holiday Inn - Monroeville ( Mossside Blvd ). It has the requisite indoor pool we all love!!! Both of these have free parking which several of the other ones did not - up to $10 a day at some of the hotels!!! Another option is the Holiday Inn - Parkway East. It does have a pool and free parking. We stayed there last summer but I wasn't terribly impressed. It was n't near any restaurants..... if you strayed too far from the hotel the area got kind of seedy and run down. This would definitely not be my first choice. One thing we do have to keep in mind is the geography of the area...... things can look close together on a map BUT you have to take into account where the bridges are and having to take strange routes because you have drive AROUND a hill!!!! I'll give some friends who live down there a call and see where they would suggest and let y'all know what they think!!! I also have some neat places that would be fun for the "Mom's Night Out" portion of our festivities!!! Barb

Pittsburgh has a great zoo.... a wonderful science center.... there's a relatively small amusement park ( with a GREAT wooden roller coaster)...... www.kennywood.comIf memory serves me right and heaven knows it often times doesn't!!! there is al lso a water park in the area too. I'll see what else I can remember.... it's been a while since we were down there! Barb

Ok, did some more research and finally got to talk to the buds down in PGH......... They also recommended the Raddison Green Tree. www.radisson.com/pittsburghpa_greentreeTheir "best available" rate for a room with 2 double beds is $85. I'll try to call them in the AM to see what if anything they can do for a group of say 10 rooms. They meet several of Susan's previously mentioned wishlist in that they have both an indoor and outdoor pool, free parking, is fairly close to Kennywood ( I'll ask about how long a ride when I talk to someone there )...... downside is no free food!!!!! Just one more option...... as if we really needed anymore, it's hard enough to find something that will please the majority of us if not all!!!! Barb

Ok, my bad!!!! I stand corrected!!! Suzi is right...... the all star game IS on July 11th. It was late when I was trying to find the info and on the Pirates website there is a picture of the MLB commissioner announcing that game would be held at PNC Field...... the picture was taken on July 30, 2004 but I only caught the July 30th part not the year!!! I really should not try to do searches after my brain is scrambled after a long day with the kids home on vacation and then working all evening! According to the Pirates website, the activities around the game ( at least the official Fan Fest ) run from July 7th to July 11th. pittsburgh.pirates.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/pit/fan_forum/asg/fanfest_main.jsp After looking at all that they are offering I want to go!!! Maybe I'd be able to get autographs of my 2 favorite Red Sox Hall of Famers..... Yaz and Pudge Fisk!!! I'm a hoping to win a lottery jackpot now!!! It still remains to be decided if we are going to stick to the original Kennywood/Sandcastle agenda or go more in the direction that Suzi has suggested. Either way, we should start to firm things up so we don't get blocked out of the hotels we've been looking at. Barb

Ok, since SuziF mentioned about the baseball all-star game being hosted at PGH this July, I checked and found out that it is going to be held on July 20th. I know that they have events for a couple of days prior to the big game. I think that if we are going to do the Monroeville Holiday Inn, we need to decide quickly so that we can hopefully get the rooms we will need.
What does everybody think?

Pittsburgh works quite well for us...... I know there's lots to do there too. The weekend that Susan mentioned in June works out for as as well. We're pretty much free any old weekend we decide on.
